Just accepted by Millis and think I will be reserving a spot in the July class in Richfield. Once out on the road with a trainer, will he be in the passenger seat training or will it be more like team driving most of the time? Definitely want to take full advantage of the training.
playamwj12 Thanks this. -
It depends on the trainer and the student. I'm in the seat. 100% of the time with new drivers. The guy I have now drove ten years then took. 4 off so we are pushing it when we can. Some trainers team as soon as you get cdl.

As a newbie, I'll want and need as much time driving as possible, but at first, it would be nice to know my trainer would be awake and able to advise or take over when things get sticky. No problem handling adversity myself and learning from it, but I'll have plenty of that once out on my own. Even after a full year, I'll still be a rookie with more to learn, I'm sure. Hope I get a trainer who can put up with my questions. Want to learn the ins and outs of planning to maximize miles and especially those things that may lie a bit outside "the book" - learning those things you can't learn in school and dealing with gray areas.

Your trainer will be right next to u while u have a permit. Once u get your full license, he may run as a team. He will use his discretion based on your progress.
-
And more then likely even if your trainer chooses to run full team Millis frieght isnt designed for it. You may run long days but it wont be a true team truck for weeks on end.

My trainer and i did team after i got my cdl. And he got nearly 5000 miles one week

I am in training right now, most of the time when you actually need help I would imagine your trainer will be available, but remember, a lot of the time is just highway driving where you will need no help.

Thanks for the responses. Start classes in Richfield July 21st and looking forward to it. Not so sure about 2+ months sharing a sleeper with someone, but you do what you have to do and I'll be glad to have the experience. Much better than some places that give you a week on the road with someone before cutting you loose. That just doesn't seem like enough.
I hope my trainer has some cooler or fridge space for me. I rarely eat fast food and 10 weeks of it may not sit well. Oh well, I'll adapt. Anyone else going to be in the July class? -
I just saw a 45 ft trailer on I75 in GA. I thought they only used those in NC and maybe TX.
