No, it sounds awful. But in the end it will be worth it. I plan to just deal with it and learn as much as I can.

As for the laptop, you'd be surprised how much just riding in a passenger car can damage the hard drive. Hard drives consist of very sensitive magnetic plates spinning at high speeds with very small moving parts. I suggest you power down the computer while the truck is moving. Worst case scenario, it falls off the bunk and damages the computer in any number of ways. Best case, the constant vibration makes sectors start to go bad at a rate faster than you would experience outside of a moving vehicle. Either way, you lose important data. Keeping it powered down will help prevent damage. Tablets have no moving parts so data lose is less of an issue. -
I'm optimistic about it too.. Just getting a little nervous. I am leaving a great paying job that I have been at for years to do this... Just hope I'm making the right decision

Good luck. -
The change in lifestyle is what I am looking foreword too. It's a union shop and once I leave coming back isn't really an option but if it doesn't work out I'll find something.

I had my laptop on the truck for a long time with no problem. Just don't leave it on a ridged surface while the truck is moving.
I'd rather ride in an OTR truck long distance than a car. -
Noob, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of work are you doing now?

I'm a machinist working in a place that does a lot of work for the navy

so why would you want to leave a job like that to run on a truck working 14 hour days 7 days a week for weeks at a time and go home for just a couple of days before you have to go back out? most people get into trucking because they either have few options or are in a job making minimal money. I would suggest you think and rethink your decision and make VERY sure you want this lifestyle. It isn't easy and when you get on the road, its just you and the steering wheel.

Things are getting really slow where I am and layoffs are imminent. I have looked into this for many years. I don't want to do otr forever but it seems like the only way into the industry and to be honest I have always been a bit of a loner and think I will enjoy it How long have you been with Millis? Do you like it?
