Hello I was wondering if you guys could clarify how the testing for CDL was done? I noticed it said was done outside of school in home State.

Well I want to apply to the one in Texas because that's my home state. Are you left on your own to find a truck and schedule an exam?

Also when do the testing actually take place? Because I noticed in one post it said when your trainer feels you're ready so is it not after the initial 3 weeks of training but during the 15k miles of training with trainer?

Yes you test for your CDL during the 15,000 miles with your trainer in the truck you've been driving and when he feels you are ready. Unless you go to school in Wisc then you will test at the end of your 3 week class. Hope that helps

I was looking into the trucking industry. I have a CDL class A, I got the license about 8 years ago at a company where we drove a class A vehicle on occasion & class B regularly. I am comfortable in a class B vehicle and can drive a class A vehicle. Problem is, I have not drove in around 8 years and also I've never actually drove a big rig. I am wondering how I'd go about getting the big rig experience with out having to go through all the licensing training being I have the license? I also do have some experience maybe not on the big cross country rigs but on smaller trucks, I am familiar with air brakes as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

At Millis you have to have 1 year's experience or go through the school to get hired there. In trucking in general, you already have the license so instead of going back to school, many companies have extensive training programs set up for new drivers. Google is your friend. I suggest you do some research and get on the phone and call the companies you are interested in.

Pretty much anywhere you go these days, if you've been out of a truck for more than a year or two they will require you to at least attend their training. Insurance reasons most likely.

Not trying to push you away from talking to Millis, but KLLM is one of the companies that works with drivers who've been out of a truck for a while. Give them a call and see what they say then call Millis and see what they say.
