When I worked Streator (Illinois) Regional I dropped lots of beer loads, even in the winter at night. Millis used to tell us to leave the engine running on beer loads in the winter. Their theory was that the vibration of the truck would keep the beer from freezing.

One night when it was 5 degrees out, I dropped a beer load on a Saturday night, knowing it would sit in freezing temps til monday morning.

I returned to that beer distributor a week later for another load. I asked if they ever get frozen loads. The guy said no, beer doesn't freeze very easily. That was the distributor near Scott Air Force Base, I-64, I think exit 19. Forget the name of the town, just s.e. of St. Louis.

Oddly enough, if you take a beer bottle that is 32 degrees, and bang the bottom of the bottle onto a table, the molecules in the beer will scatter and the beer will freeze within a few seconds.

That's what surprised me when I started working here, because I had always been told that beer doesn't freeze easily, but they insisted on idling the trucks on beer loads for the reason you mentioned. My dad loves beer that's been in the freezer because it typically doesn't freeze that easily (I don't drink so I only have his experience by proxy). Dunno what their reasoning is here, but I guess I'll do it.

Gotta love Mondays in the winter time on regional! I've been running Best Buy dedicated for the Christmas season, but Koch has been really shorting us on loads this year and Monday is always the worst so I have been trying to work Saturdays and take Mondays off. Well we didn't have many loads this past Saturday so I came home and checked in Sunday only to get the check in the morning deal. This morning I get a "check back in an hour or two." So here I sit drinking my coffee in my recliner while the rest of the house is asleep.

During the rest of the year I bring a load home on Friday that delivers Monday so I know exactly when I'll be rolling and where I'm going. I don't like this sitting around crap. I can't wait till freight picks back up. I just hope it doesn't pick us as slow as it did last year.

So Millis posted on Facebook yesterday that drivers who do the fleet average of 115,000 miles can make $60,000+ (before taxes, I'd think) with just mileage pay and not including accessorial pay. I assume that's for the upcoming pay increase, since I did 122,000 miles in 2015 and didn't come near that before taxes.

If that isn't an exaggeration or spin, then we're looking at something like .52cpm for this pay raise if my math is right and they aren't pulling our legs.

Thanks for the heads up on the facebook posting... I called the 1-800 number, and confirmed that Millis would be glad to put me on the road... Nothing like having more options.
