You do realize a bigger tax return means that you gave the government a personal loan interest free for 16 months?

The ultimate goal is to have a tax return as close to $0 as you can get...

 

BTW Steeler, I was set to go Wil-trans Monday. Going with Millis now, I’ll be in Texas on the 15th.

True but taking per diem pay in this situation is not the way to go about that. There are other ways to accomplish that without taking a lower pay rate to do it.

How much rubbing alcohol are you sticking in with the washer fluid?

 

I am not condoning taking perdiem or straight pay. My view is based solely on taxes..

As I was typing my reply to the latest post I was thinking how I am about done trying to explain this topic. One of the guys I went to MTI school with had 5 kids, 1 which was handicap, a house with mortgage interest and property taxes- all big deductibles when you file your taxes at the end of the year. I mean he was in tax deduction heaven.

I tried to explain to him in orientation when they were selling the per diem pay why it is not a good idea and the end of year write off he would get with straight pay along with everything else. Nope he saw stars with the BS carrots at the end of the stick they hung in front of him and took per diem. In fact everyone in my class took per diem (except me) and all cried later about not making enough money week to week. He then spent the next year complaining to me how he could not make enough money (was at the former per diem starting pay of .31 per mile) and eventually quit after his mandatory year was up.

He now tells me how much more money he makes now and bashes Millis. Guess what, per diem isn't an option at his new place so he is getting all the pay possible up front. I point out that he is not comparing apples to apples and he would have done much better at Millis if he had gone straight pay. He changes the subject.

He was also a guy who ignored the Millis fuel solutions and only fueled at Loves. He did this so he could be "platinum" or whatever with their rewards program and get .06 per gallon fueled in "Loves money" and a free coffee when Millis would have paid him .10 per gallon if he was fuel solution compliant. Only real advantage to what he did was more free showers which also really did not add up overall either but I am done with math for tonight.
