@MIT just want to touch on the backing thing a moment. It's important for you to know that backing styles are as different from trucker to trucker as their fingerprints. You'll never see two drivers do it the same. You will absolutely find your own groove. I'd say that there isn't a wrong way, but that's a lie. We've all seen some version of "the wrong way". Everything comes down to setting yourself up for the way you prefer to back. Sometimes space or situations will prohibit that, and you'll have to improvise. Little by little, you'll get it. It will take a full year to get proficient, I personally guarantee it. So don't worry about how many times you get it wrong. Celebrate the times you get it right and remember how you did it. What I do now bears no resemblance to what I did way back when. For starters, I'm the only driver I know that slides tandems for every single dock, unless it's wide open. If I need to stick my trailer in a really tight spot, that helps me a lot. Not everyone likes that. But, it makes me a friggin surgeon in tight places. The following photos were a nasty situation a couple loads ago. You can't see what's in front of my truck, but trust me. There's absolutely no room. Pushing your tandems back would go 100% contrary to what most folks would tell you. But it works for me. You'll find your own style

Hell, if he was your trainer, that 3500 miles would have been in one week

Hahahaha. Actually been kinda slacking with current student. Hes only aversging 2500 a week but its been an unusual 4 weeks. Got on LaCrosse to memphis for a bit and while i love running it cuz it gets me home often, it also limits your miles because of the appointment st Memphis. Really wish theyd make it a drop lolSteelersjunkie Thanks this.

Well, funny you should mention that, since I've only been on the road for exactly one week

Much more to learn, I realize I don't know #### about #### yet. Thanks for letting me vent a little. I'm gonna get good at this ######.Steelersjunkie Thanks this. -
Or, try honoring the appointment times. I loved going to that place. Coulda done without the unnecessary waiting. Nice folks though, always liked them.

Looks like I mentioned the wrong person in my previous post. I guess that bit about backing was meant for you. Sorry, my fault. I hate when I do stuff like that, not paying attention. Sorry man, I'm just sorely lacking sleep. That's getting corrected in about 15 minutes.

I came into training with an open mind. I really had no expectations out of my trainer. Matter of fact when I first started in Richfield tried to make sure I had an open mind to anything.
Been out with my trainer almost 3 weeks together 24 hours a day except for a few moments here and there. First week was the roughest at least for me. He has a different way of training I guess it took a little while to get used to it. Now on my third week lol I know what’s coming when I make a mistake. But he is good at eventually explaining things when we get the time. Sometimes in the moment is not the best time to get into an in depth conversation.
There are times I get aggravated with him but like @keen98 said you may get someone a whole lot worst. I feel I’m learning a lot from my guy so any minor personal differences are irrelevant.dhellmer Thanks this. -
If you've got 3500miles in your 1st week, I'd suck it up and do whatever you need to do to keep your current trainer. There are guys out here who only get 2000ish miles a week while training. You keep running like that, and as long as you are learning the other aspects of this job you will be on your own before you know it.
As for venting, no problem we've all been there. As long as you dont go off the rails and take it to far if you have to use here to maintain sanity and stay with your trainer then so be it. You get on your own there are gojng to be ALOT of days you need or want to vent lol. It helps having another driver you're able to vent with at the end of the day. I got to be good friends with another guy in class and we'd call each other #### near every day for the 1st yr to vent or to ask if the other has been to where we were going.
It helps big time. Calling your wife, gf, kids, etc is great but they dont understand what you are and will be going thru everyday. Most of them think "ok you drive a big ### truck its not thaaaaat hard to hold a wheel"....those of us here or others in your class have been there and are willing to help as much as we can. Again I'll tell you the same thing I've told plenty of others on this site. Im more than willing to give you my # and you can call me with any questions or problems you run into. And there are several others who can vouch for me on that.dhellmer and Steelersjunkie Thank this. -
I would exchange the word brave for stupid.OnTheLevel357 Thanks this.
