I believe that movies like Wrong Turn have really harmed the public perception of this state. But with that being said, after living away from here for 22 years, it has taken some time for me to adjust to living here again. I think it is mostly because the pillhead zombies are a new thing since I moved away, and those people are scary. Also it seems that WV is allergic to well lit areas. Your shopping centers and gas stations never seem to be as well lit here as in other places.

That and like SJ said, the reptiles still like to prowl here. Either the prostitutes haven't figured out how to use the internet or they've traded their phones for drugs and have to go drum up business the old fashioned way.

All of the truck stops in Walton/Florence suck, except the TA. It isn't the nicest place you'll ever stop, but the parking situation is awesome. Unlike every other truck stop in that area.

And you made it out, congratulations! Not all do. I know I will offend someone here but that city is a smoldering pile of crap that needs to be put out of its misery (and mine, the times I have to go there).

At least the rest of them have a parking situation, unlike the Walton Pilot.

Well, I survived day three here in Burleson. We finally got to drive around the yard today. Whoever maintains those training truck transmissions has a job for life! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I think, and maybe I'm wrong, the reason is the truck stops themselves. Pretty much every place there is either a Go Mart or some tiny mom and pop place. There are very few major chain truck stops. The big 3 have some form of security at pretty much every place, and those little places don't. And everyone seems to turn a blind eye to it, including the local cops. I have my own theories about that. I stayed at the Go Mart in Charleston once out of desperation. Went to the bar/restaurant across the street (decent food, by the way) and was warned by the bartender about the reptiles. She said that the cops know all about it and never do anything. My door got knocked on at least half a dozen times. On two of those occasions there was a cruiser sitting real close. So either the cops don't care or they are getting a piece of the action. Neither one of those is ok. So I don't even stop anymore unless I go to Hurricane or Beckley. And Beckley is a nice place but it's a pain to get to time wise. My body is well trained now, can easily go 5 hours without stopping. I don't want to offend you in the least @Gremlin304 but WV for me is a fly-over state. I am always fueled up and have plenty of coffee and cigarettes before I roll through. The only reason my wheels stop rolling is a traffic jam.
