Yeah I don't think I would ever want to do a strictly local job. If it involves a day cab it's probably not the right job for me. I've got a friend in NC that does the food service thing. 5-10 stops a day, he hand unloads and he tells me he still drives 500 miles a day and it's not uncommon for him to have to violate his HOS to get back to the yard. That's too much like work.

There are a lot of food service delivery jobs near me. Sysco being the biggest. Those guys really bust their hump ALL day long and work long days on top of that. That is a young man's job for sure. I'm still 18 in my head but my body is slowly reminding me otherwise.

Yeah I'm 46. Not too old but not a spring chicken anymore either. That's what made me decide against going with one or the two flatbed companies that wanted to hire me. Those young guys can have that. When it was -35 degrees (and colder) in the upper Midwest this winter I kept telling myself "It could be worse. You could be out tarping in this!"

    Steelersjunkie and Farmer54 Thank this.

Yeah I am 51 and did spend part of this past winter tarping and and trying to remove tarps that were covered in snow and ice. Also dealing with frozen straps and flatbed trailers that had to be shoveled first in order to be loaded. It sucks for sure and not worth the work in my opinion.

Lol that figures. 79 miles today and I'm already banging on my 14. Sucks being empty early on a Monday morning because it is almost guaranteed to take forever before they find you a reload. I hate that 14 hour clock with a passion.

Hey off the wall question, I'm looking to pick up a socket and wrench set that's a little more compact for the truck, am kind of over having the tool bag setup with everything thrown in it. Sometime when you're fueling could someone throw a tape measure on that driver's side compartment and see if a box that's 11-1/2" tall will fit in there? TIA

Wasn't too bad today. Hour and 40 minutes but long enough.

Related question:. Does anybody know if B&F on West Allis will take me early? Every time I've ever been there before it's been tightly scheduled and therefore just in time. But the last time I was there, the shipping clerk was on the phone arguing with somebody and she ended the call with "That's why they're called appointments!" which leads me to believe that they might not let me drop early.

Everytime I've been to B and F I've got there checked in, lady signs my bills, and says go drop in the drop lot.
