When the meal by the time the owner was done was costing close to 300 bucks per person and he would do this on a monthly basis if required if drivers ran enough miles. If you ran 10K your pay was raised 1 cent a mile back to the first of the month and thru the rest of the month. 12K got you 2 cents a mile. 14 K got you dinner with the boss at the steakhouse. Those who ran hard where rewarded in other ways also. Instead of 65 MPH trucks like the rest of the fleet ours where set at 70 MPH.

This one here tells you the difference between Millis and Henderson. While I was at Millis I stopped at the Cartersville shop for fuel and shower. There was a driver in there that needed to get home ASAP his mother had just died. Millis was refusing to get him home. This was in early 99. Fast forward about 16 months. Henderson lost an office employee named Marcie St Peters to a brain tumor. He flew in every driver from the closest airport from where they where on the road so they could all say their goodbyes to her. He also setup and donated the first 20 grand into her 3 month old sons College fund. He paid for her Funeral and other final expenses. Why did he do these things. John had a saying here we are a Family we may not all get along however we will all help each other when needed. There might be a reason why in the time I was there I barely made it up 1/4 of the seniority chart. He had drivers that had been there longer than he had owned the company some as long as 25 Years. Why respect and good treatment for his employees. We all knew that even in the toughest times he was there for us.

Bigpappa I hate to tell you this but 20 Years ago Millis had a Piss poor rep worse than JB Hunt. However they snagged drivers in due to having the shiny trucks with all the goodies in them. Back then their trucks had the Full VIT package with keyless entry Bostrom VIP seats carpeting fully in the truck true refrigs with microwaves and decent power for a fleet 430 Cat motors. However they still micromanaged your butt to the point you wanted to leave them in less than 1 year if you had any experience. The only good thing they did was the Skid pad training at the local community college to learn how to avoid jackknifes beyond that they were a joke. They screamed about idle time when it was 0 degrees outside expecting that little electric bed warmer to be enough. Yeah they gave you a 12 volt bed warmer that went under your sheets and said you will not need to idle in the winter anymore.

For all of you "experienced" drivers, Experience does not = good driver. I have seen a lot of experienced drivers I wouldn't let drive my mower.

Last I checked they are still in business and there are many complimentary things said about them. It appears you may be in the minority as far as your opinion. Glad you have a forum to vent your frustrations. How many years has it been since you drove for them? 18? What is their reputation today? No need to answer. As I said it appears you have an axe to grind. Carry on!

20 years ago is a long time and alot of things have changed at Millis. Your experience 20 years ago is irrelevant now, because the things you say happened then don't happen now. Good pay, no issues getting home, and top notch equipment.

Not necessarily on the job history. Mine is varied and covered many fields other than trucking, ive got about 50 over 30 years. I would say about 20 were trucking related and over half of those do not exist anymore because the fly by night outfits have literally imploded and gone out of existance. I just learned of two more that did so last year. Throw them onto the pile.

Out of all that, I would hold 5 of those companies to be a conflict of one form or another. Time have gone by and literally buried that story. Companies do not go that far back.

70mph is slow?? And I moved on from Millis but not for anything they did. Got my year experience and moved on to smaller company with more hometime and little more money. However I would go back to Millis in a heartbeat if something changes where I'm at.

Shows me, anyway, that the owner gives a darn about his employees, and goes out of his way to show it. Something more people in management should do.
