also, the way it is supposed to work. when you request hometime it has to be at least a week in advance. your dispatcher is supposed to get you home when you want to be home, if they don't then you earn .05 a mile for every mile you drive past the time you want to be home. and that money is taken out of your dispatchers bonus. so it behoves your dispatcher you get you home when you want to be home. I personally have not had a problem with getting home.
I wouldnt ever plan on taking the extra .05 out of your dispatchers pocket though. He'll just starve ya to death after that. They do everything they can to get you home when you want but you know sometimes poop occurs and for whatever reason you may not get home right when you wanted to. Thats life on the road! The best thing to do in that situation is to be a team player and not make a big stink about it. Your dispatcher will remember that and reward you for it later with miles. The guys that do take that .05 extra are the same guys at all the terminals whining about every little thing and not getting enough miles. Then they wonder why us rookies are getting 2500 to 3500 miles a week. Like I said you gotta be a team player!
i agree with that statement, although you never want to be the yes man or the company kiss butt, working on a team effort with dispatch and management can go a long way in your favor and your wallet (JMHO) I'm happy for you on the spotter gig and wish you and your family well, i start school on the 24th of this month and am very excited to get the show on the road
Filled out an application on line tonight for millis, not sure if there in a hiring freeze, I live in Texas. I have 2+ years, but only local no OTR
So what is the deal for millis training? Is it really a $5k training cost and 2 yr contract? I read something about it, but it seemed wacky to me. $500 down, they take out $20/wk for a year then you still owe $2000 or something. Is that right? Is it a 2 yr commitment? Does it say this anywhere on their website? I guess I missed it.
its a 2500 dollar contract which you pay 500 dollars of that up front, then you sign a promissary note that you will pay the additional 2000 dollars over the next 100 weeks. You also sign a contract that states that after training , you will work for millis for one year from your hire date. You will take a 3 week course at MTI, after that you will have a 3 day orientation. At the end of that 3rd day your hire date will commence. Now, if you quit working for millis before a years time (your contract) you will then owe an additional 2500 dollars making the grand total 5000 dollars ( not including the 18% interest). If you stay the full year you have payed the original 500 , and the 100 weeks of 20 dollar payments at NO interest
Interesting So can a guy go to MTI, pay the $2500 without financing (note) and not sign any contract?
