i have had my cdl 10yrs, but what expierence i have is unverifiable. mostly local stuff, i did drive for star transport for about 6 months back in 2000. but they new all of that before i went to ohio. and it cant be because of where i live either, one of the guys in the same class lives 20 minutes away from me.
i will say this about millis from what i was able to see in the short time i was there. 95% of the drivers i met were extremly nice and offered all kinds of advice. bill the trianer is great a real fun guy to talk to. im sure he can be an ### if he needs to be.
I hope everything works out for all of you in class now and the ones getting ready to go to class. of all the apps i hve sent in in the last week the only one willing to talk to me is werner, so things may just be slowing down even more for trainees right now.
good luck

i just finished the school and orientation in richfield and my hire date was 03/11.
in my class there were 6 of us...one of the guys there was only there for the trainiing and wasnt going to be a driver for millis.
out of the 5 that were getting hired on with millis, 2 already had there cdl's in pocket.
one of those guys had his cdl for years and was a equipment operator and was driving dumps with trailers which required the cdl
the other guy had gotten his cdl through a school shortly before coming to millis because some companies require you to have a cdl when coming to training and at the time he hadnt made up his mind which compnay he was going to drive for.
frieght is slow and that is industry wide but most of the guys i spoke with are still pleased about the miles they are getting
from what i seen at the terminal it seems that the freight would come in waves...sometimes the guys sat for a couple of days with not much to do and then next time you looked all the trucks were out and moving again and there was barely a truck to be seen ( and that includes the guys that would sleep over at the truck stop)
im sorry what happened to you dirt and wasnt implying that you were the one hiding anything in my previous post but what i was saying was that they may have had a different reason for letting you go other then what they said...thats just the way it goes sometimes when your an employer which i myself was prior to coming here
i do wish you all the luck iin the future as i do everyone because no one is happy about the situation we are all in -
When I was in Cartersville, I heard the instructor tell several people on the phone, that they were not hiring exp. drivers because all of their trucks were full.

Its good. A little trouble with down shifting, but it seems to be hit and miss, so hopefully I can fine tune it, and quit 'out thinking myself".
Backing is pretty good so far. I need to work on the pre-trip a little.
Bill is a laugh riot most of the time.
The other drivers have been great as far as taking time to talk to us and answer questions.
Overall it seems that Millis is an excellent company and they go the extra mile as far as driver comfort/satisfaction. They also seem to have a 'no nonsense' policy which is respectable.
Think you'll make it into town anytime soon? -
Thought Iwould get there tomorrow with a glass load before I go home for the weekend but things got changed today. On my way to Georgia they told me to deliver this load tomorrow than I am preplanned on one going to Trenton for Monday but it does not pick up till Friday. I have to hang out here in Cartersville as I cant leave till mid morning Friday as I have to give somebody a ride to Knoxville. I am not sure if I will be delivery that load or giving it to somebody to take on up and deliver. I will let you know if I am going to be delivery when I find out for sure.
gonnabe Thanks this. -
The help you have provided has proved invaluable, and just want to say thanks, The school is top notch and Bill is a great guy and all the drivers have not only helped but went out of there way to say hi and answer any questions we have.
I must say between the equipment, maintenance and from what we see the drivers here it all seems as was posted.
Once again thanks and hope to see you soon.

"THOSE ARE THE SURPRISES AND WHERE WE ARE AT IN CLASS. OTHER THAN THOSE THINGS WE ARE HAVING AGOOD TIME LEARNING, AND MY GOD THERE IS ALOT TO LEARN! "
And you will keep on learning, 'cause despite on what some of us think, none of us knows everything regardless of how long we have been driving -
hello my name is david im doing my training in ohio and i have a couple of questions that i hope will be answered with the best of knowledge. I know i have three weeks of traing followed by 3 day orientation and 5 to 8 weeks with a trainer but how sooon after all that do you get ur own truck ? thanks david
-
when you get done with your trainer they will send you to a teminal to test out with a instructor then you will be assigned your own truck.
davidh06 Thanks this. -
We'll be here Monday, (Driving I think), but we'll be in eventually.
We'll just keep lurking around corners whispering "Hey Spanky" when a driver walks by.
