Good luck to both of you. Keep us posted on how things are going for you. I will be doing night classes in July for my CDL and then I hope to catch on with Watkins / Shephard. If not there then I will be applying at Millis. They were # 3 on my list. Schneider is # 2. Have a great evening.

I'd go with millis... I drove for roehl for a little over a year... If u want no miles and 250$ checks goto roehl then.... Most of millis freight is beer and it's drop hook... Millis has wayyyyyyy better trucks too
hindsy Thanks this. -
The only students millis hires is from there own school. You have to have at least 1 yr of OTR experience or go to there school to get on with them.
I called to find out if they were hiring out of my area and thats what the recruiter told me.
American Truckerhindsy and difference-maker Thank this. -
I cant comment on Millis, but I found Roehl to be a decent company.

Well, its time to decide now. I think I've chosen Millis. I have to call them today and set up my school date. June 7th in Ohio. Millis seems to be a better fit for me. I know I'd like to run some FB's someday, but why start out there when I'm learning. I like the no CANADA idea! (ok LOVE THAT) I seem to see a lot more of Millis trucks running past my door.
I just think that either one of these companies will be a good place to start. I mean they're no SWIFT or CRE, but I think they will give me the quality training I need.
So now the next step in the journey... See on the pavement! -
That's the trick finding a company that seems to fit you the best. Actually it's not until you become a driver for that company do you find out 100% if you made the right decision. Good luck to you and remember no matter who you go with you will experience days where you will be frustrated with the company.hindsy Thanks this.

Good luck in your journey. Just remember to go in with an open mind. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Everybody has their own opinion and as you go through the training process you will gather your own opinion that you will be able to share with others. Keep us posted as to how things are going for you. This was one of my choices before I found another company I want to hire on with. Take care and happy training.

The only issue with Millis is will be stuck in the NE/SE - I like what they offer but really want to get out west also if possible. They only run from the Mississippi river east. And if freight gets slow - you cant haul anything else - where as with reefer you can do both.
hindsy Thanks this. -
I felt that way too at first, but for me staying east of the Mississippi means I'm closer to home. I just hope freight will stay where it is or continue to get better through my first year with them. I will then look at my options at that time again. My goal is to be able to get onto something regional or even ltl in 3 to 5 years. Then I'll be able to get closer to home and more home... (maybe even everyday)
The Flatbeds of Roehl are the main reason it took till now to make this choice. I'm going with my gut and just feel like Roehl will Micro manage me and Millis even if they are going to electronic logs will give you some freedom. I think I like the E logs since they then can't tell you to drive when the computer says it is illegal...
Well I'm going home to make the call now. See you in June? maybe? -
Let me know how the call goes!
