I was about to post the same question.
I had a Coleman 12v Iceless cooler. Lasted 8 months and barely worked. Complete waste of $100.
I have an inverter, so I want the real thing this time.
Bags of ice get expensive, even at $1.69 from Love's.
Mini fridge that can handle the haul??

$1.69? #### most loves I have paid $2.49 or more and some truck stops I have even paid $3 for ice.
-
Love's are $1.69.
All the ones I pull into, anyway. -
either way it adds up fast especially if you have to buy more than 1 bag a day, I have my 5 day ice chest and my ice still never last more than 2 days...
but I also dont idle my truck much so if im in a hot area and not in the truck then my ice is probably melting faster -
I have learned to enjoy PBJ's and warm water. lol
-
I havent bought ice for my ice chest since I stuck my truck in the shop in Phoenix and after 3 days everything went bad which was the beginning of this month, I have been in areas lately where its nice and cool though, during the night its been getting in the 50's so my drinks are at a comfortable drinking temp
I sleep better when its cold so I dont run the heater unless its 30 degrees outside.
On a side note thought it was funny when I was chatting with some locals here today and they complained that it was a heat wave and hot, I replied its only 75 degrees right now, lol
I know its hitting 90 in some parts here in Washington but its been lower than 80 where im at. -
In regards to all the hating on the Colman iceless coolers, I just wanted to add my two cents.
I had one for about nine months and it was a real love hate relationship.
It worked great so long as the ambient temp was between fourty and eighty. If it was fourty (which in my cascadia, was not uncommon) it would be about ten degrees in the cooler, if it was eighty it would fluctuate between thirty and fourty depending on how often you opened the cooler.
The thermoelectric unit that did the actual cooling was reliable. The fan that cooled it, was not.
I had to replace the fan three separate times, which wasn't hard so long as you had a spare on hand. A lot of people dont, I happened to be on home time when it did break, and got a few replacements.
That's my only real complaint about it.
Oh and the power cord plug in needed replaced twice.
Other than those few problems I found it to be reliable and still now, use it on camping trips in my four wheeler. I stopped using it in the truck because I moved into a Volvo 660 with a built in freezer/fridge combo. -
That's correct! That's why I went to a real fridge. I like my ice cream !
I also liked to buy those frozen meals like lean cuisine and pop them into the microwave. My truck had an APU on it with a voltage monitor feature. So even if I was out of the truck for 2 days, the apu would keep the batteries charged.
