There's new news that came out last night on paying OT for Salary workers that work more than 40 hours a week who earn less than $47k a year. I think this is great news. I know my mom's been working OT for the last 15+ years without receiving extra pay for the extra work hours or work days just because she was on Salary.

How does that negate anything I said? Everyone knows the megas pay crap. They may have a lot of employees, but there are more drivers not employed by them than employed by them. Also, as I stated, if you aren't making better than that, you need to find a better job....how is that wrong?

Because you said "Most of us make more than $15 per hours worked"

Which is untrue, I will say say a smaller group does, Whether its a mega or not......These irregular route,Non-union "relaxed" outfits that do what they want(which is a good portion of this industry today) Pay wages that equal to or Less than $15 per hour.TOTAL hours worked...

You hear it all the time..."Man,I could work at McDonalds for what Im making out here"

Sad,But true....Like I stated, Only the Smart,Resourceful, Become successful in this Biz, Which is WRONG.

canned span said "Corporate profits are at an all time high" Which is also very true. its all about looking out for themselves Only, NOT their valued assets, Which are your drivers....

Yup... The party the cares and will take care of you after you lose that job at McD's to a computer screen due to higher wages.

I was just at a Sheetz and a QT's and placed my order via screen... All McD's has to do is turn the screens around to face the customer instead of the employee.

I think you are forgetting that a lot of people are not company drivers. Now, maybe they are failing at running their own business, maybe they made bad decisions or got suckered into a l/p deal they weren't prepared to make work, but they are making more than $15/hr...maybe not after expenses, but that's on them. I know as a l/o for a mega, I made way more than $15/hr. You are also forgetting about all of the o/o with their own authority, o/o leased on to a major carrier, specialized company drivers, etc. Now, maybe you aren't making $15/hr, or you know people that arent, but that is anecdotal evidence.

If she didn't fill out a time sheet, that's why she didn't get OT, there was no record of hours worked. I was on salary before I drove a truck, never expected OT, and my employer did not pay it. 2 years after I left they called me up, needed a good address for me because the DOL said if there is a time sheet, or some other record of hours worked, you still have to pay OT based on what the per hour wage would be at 40 hours on the salary. In my case, it was $590/week or $14.75/hr. They owed me over $800 in OT and the DOL was making them pay it.

I don't see a need for a Union . I worked a union job that was mandatory and I still didn't see anything more then a paycheck and a few annoying letters in the mail to tell me how much they care. Wonder why if you pull Reefer and sit almost all day at food places? Union employees that do no more then exactly required. All there needs to be is a indstury standard . a "required base wage" might force out these Chicago white Volvo companies that pay no more then .15-20 cpm that help drive the freight cost down. You know brokers love them that think $1 a mile of less is good money . just go into Chicago it seams almost every white Volvo or freightshaker that looks like it's been in a demo derby has a piece of cardboard taped to their door. I've even seen DOT numbers in spray paint. Stop making it so easy for any steering wheel holder to be a OO as well

I've been salaried for many years before coming to Trucking... I worked over 40 and Saturdays too...

    But...

Once the companies start to pay overtime... They will drop the rate per hour so that when you work 40 hours plus OT you will be making just as much as you were when paid salary.

I never thought/felt that I was getting paid $X/hour for the first 40 and then free for the rest... The salary paid was inclusive of the Extra time I worked.

I just don't think getting paid by the hour is the answer to the problem. Especially since some of the hours being included we are just sitting around... McD's employees don't stop working for three hours and expect to get paid... LOL

The "how" you get paid doesn't matter... If at the end of the year you are unhappy with what you made versus worked given then start looking for better options.

When did people working minimum wage start making $53,000 a year ??? They don't, if you make $.40 cpm and drive 60mph that's $24 per hour.
