You new drivers crying that no one will help you then why don't you help yourself. Spend a few bucks and go to the Smith System training. Or bug your company to send you. That program was put together by many old time drivers and it works very well if you use it.

    True.
I had that in 2002 and it covered a LOT of stuff that I had to learn the hard way over the course of 10 years.

Anything to get a leg up is always advisable.

Whatcha think McFishes are made of? You can make 1,000,000,000 sandwiches out of just one whale. Make sure you put plenty tartar sauce on it. :)

What's this black box you speak of rerun? ECM's records events by parameters set by the shop and drivers exceeding them like speed, tach, coasting and idle time. Coasting is anything with the foot off the throttle and the truck moving. Real black boxes only exist in certain trucks like real Fed Ex trucks. EOBR's will record on going data and is considered a black box. If I'm in a wreck and still conscious, I'm still going through a quick sub-conscious shut down of neutral, pop the brakes and shut off the key. The only way neutral would be considered out of control is on a hill out of control. The steering wheel points you and the brakes stop you. Being on flat ground and out of gear has nothing to do with control. Nobody would be in that position anyways. Hey let me pop out of gear and coast to a stop. Doh! Like the DOT guy said, them little orange lines on the ground determines what happened.

You just have to be real careful about teaching the course. You've got to have their permission on how many will be taught. My company bought the rights so we could take the booklets home and teach our family how the sysytem works. We've had no accidents and my son loves it when he knows what a car is going to do before they even know! He's 23 now and has been using it since he was 16. I thought the company was cool for that.

Good, do you use it? We had to in the city with a large truck. Moving around with 85' of truck and trailer had you on your toes all day long. Of there's many times I thanked God for being in a Truck and trailer and not a semi. That setup, although longer, was easier to get around.
