Reading threads like this and knowing others who regret not doing a physical to maintain cdl makes me want to keep cdl as long as possible when I retire as long as health allows it

Equip a golf cart with swimming pool cleaning supplies and try for a contract for swimming pool care at nudist resorts.

True that. But a man of his experience should teach. Not that he has to. But he would be light years better than some by the book nerd.

Did exactly the same thing sir , retired in Nov. of 2011 , drove for GSF for 33 years and retired from there. I kept my CDL license however , but that was " a just in case thing" never missed working at all , not once. I did a few months ago come out of retirement to help a good friend stay home with his very sick wife , it was only for a brief time , all i had to do was pass a DOT physical , No problems there as my health is still really good. If you're finances are in good shape , instead of working why not spend some quality time with the wife on an extended road trip.......take off and just let your conscious be your guide , go where you want to, stop when an where you want to , and get reacquainted all over again. My wife and I did that for the 1st couple years of my retirement and had a blast doing it. Now we take some time each spring and head to Nebraska to spend time with her sister....camping , fishing , etc....then back home in time for me to get ready for deer season. Retirement should be about you 2 , get out and enjoy!

Chinatown, your wife sounds like my wife. Told her we needed to buy a small bar in Thailand and employ some nice looking ladies to serve drinks. She made the comment about a certain part of my body might end up in the "hot pot"

trucking continues to change....more regulations, more newbies without sufficient training, more road rage, more rude aggressive behavior. i retired last year (health) and altho thats all i have ever done and i do miss it, all i have to do is take a trip somewhere or read some of these threads or see a vid like this,

    http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1195779?ref=feeds/latest

to make me realize I DONT want to be back out there that bad.

maybe like was suggested moving rvs or do something part time. enjoy your time with mama and enjoy being retired.

    best wishes whatever you decide

Yes, it's a wild life in Asia! I felt bad about not partnering with him on the endeavor, so I drop by and visit...a few times a week.

Find yourself a hobby to keep your mind occupied. When I quit OTR for a local job, I got into flight simulation. I built a mock-up of a 747 ####pit in one of my spare bedrooms and spend countless hours flying around a virtual world using real airline procedures. I put a lot of money in this thing, but it keeps me out of trouble... Lol
