I do not like Legalese which I am about to throw at you.

There is a green book about the size of a deck of playing cards in your pocket. Get it out.

Go to this link with pretty pictures. They are sleek and naughty enough to make me pay attention

Then you have idiots like the ones who failed one of our trucks because 1 sideways mounted work area light didn't work and the lights inside one of the storage cabinets didn't work.

    Required lights have to work.
    Non-required lights don't matter.

I thought if the light was on the truck it had to work.

Common misconception. @ZVar shared the FMCSA regulation. Quite clear, if it's not required, it doesn't have to work.

You can get ticketed or a warning depending on the officer and what kind of mood he is in but either way it could go against your CSA points. You know the shape of the trailers you take so i would suggest telling dispatch youre not taking it till its fixed.

You guys know that the FMCSA regs are not always what the state goes by, a state can say all lights attached to the trailer have to work. Remember the fed's regs are the base regs, the states can make them stronger by adding to it.

You are required to have 1 tail light on each side. You are required to have a turn signal on each side, and a brake light on each side. You are required to have the 3 center lights, and a license plate light.

No other lights have to be present on the rear of the trailer, and no other lights have to work.

Those work area lights are aftermarket installations and do not pertain to the basic factory build of the vehicle.

I stand with you saying yea those agents were in need of reeducation and review of the little green book and rules on vehicle lights.
