There was an accident in late November that shut down Hwy 287 North for 10 hours. I never could find any info on it except a short blip on the Amarillo news. Talk about making everyone think hard. An 18 wheeler with a dry van was stopped on the freeway due to a car wreck. Another 18 wheeler never even saw he was stopped and plowed into the back of him. Our scales are right by the accident and all we kept seeing was what appeared to be a truck pulling doubles. It was just horrible. The poor mans truck was smashed all the way to the sleeper and he lived a few hours after they finally got him out. The first driver left the only tracks we could see. It makes you think of all the times you glance away to grab the stereo, a drink, a smoke etc. That's all it would have taken for anyone to wreck:(

I haven't been able to find the follow up story on this wreck but I remember the driver of the truck wasn't charged when he said he was distracted trying to plug the charger into his cell phone .
