More than six days after he was last heard from, Mark Frates, a 50-year-old trucker and Fairhaven native, was found dead late Thursday afternoon inside the sleeping berth of his freightliner, parked at an Interstate 195 westbound rest area, reports the New Bedford Standard-Times.
The cause and time of death were still unknown Friday, according to numerous police authorities.
The state medical examiners office is performing an autopsy, but there were no immediate indications of foul play or blunt trauma, police said. While the Bristol County District Attorneys Office awaits the autopsy results, district attorney spokesman Gregg Miliote on Friday said there was no immediate indication of suicide. Fairhaven Police Sgt. Kevin Kobza concurred, saying there were no gunshot or stab wounds.
