Good to hear. I've seen quite a few food service positions I just don't have the required experience. Granted I have more than someone who just went through cdl school but it's been awhile.

You know if any of those companies drive automatics? I've only had a few weeks of stick time in a 10 speed. Every other job I've had has had automatic trucks. I doubt local companies are willing to train me.

I know your post is about driving local, but I know last I checked the oilfield was looking for drivers and some other various positions. One I got an offer from was 2 weeks on 1 week off, seemed like decent money. Benefits, paid flight, paid housing. If you’re interested I’ll PM you their name.

####ty thing about the military cdl program is you get a waiver for the road test so you only take the written. Problem is the road test determines wether or not you have an automatic restriction. In the 3 years I was in I never drove or ever even seen a manual transmission.

Not necessarily quite quality of life.

There is a bridge into Greenwood Mississippi which is a really poor town and somewhat dangerous at night from vice, gang and other activities not supportive of quality of life in a nice town.

Mississippi is one of the lowest ranking in the USA overall for heath purposes. Cancers obesity, heart issues and so on, smoking etc. You will have days here in the south that being indoors with a filtered air conditoning at certain times of the year is worth preserving your body's own mechanism for allergy etc.

You can live very well on very little here in Arkansas, parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. It is one of the last remaining areas that has not been flooded by either Coast yet.

winters here in Miss is a special problem. Ice Storms. Miss does one thing regarding ice storms. They will put down a foot of beach sand onto the road bridges everywhere. So you will learn how to drive on sand with ice and whatever else on it or in it. It will be the one thing that gets you across that bridge to get anywhere at all during some of these storms.

Whatever home you build or buy, MAKE SURE you have a proper Grissom Storm shelter or similar rated against EF5 Tornadoes (Formal rating certified with tested results etc or actual examples from previous tornadoes that saved people. You will need to learn a certain mindset with tornados three seasons per year. Tornado season, Hot season, mudseason, tornado season then ice season and rain season followed by tornado season again for the new year. Property can be replaced but lives cannot.

Jackson isnt too bad but if you are a Vet you will want to take a very close look under the grime at Jackson VA. Or even Memphis VA. It's not the best, neither is Little Rock. (We recently corraled, fired and are prosecuting 4 pharmacists who smuggled or traded, sold hundreds of thousands of value in pain medication of some value and power. Since it's on federal property they will be underground at club fed for a while.

You will find that Mississippi is rather good in some ways. It's not that bad. Just keep in mind that they are a people who have their ideas about how they wish to live. For instance when Vicksburg was crushed in the Civil War and the subsequent reconstruction with military rule, it was bout 84 years or so before they celebrated 4th of July with fireworks again. I don't think certain wounds have yet closed in generations since then.

And the food. What food. Whoo. If you can find good food, it will be there. So much for the arteries, hearts, strokes, obesity etc. But you will not die hungry and underweight. The food is good if you can get it.

Like 06driver said, try Venture Express and Averitt.

Both have tons of automotive freight out of Canton area.

    06driver Thanks this.

I used to drive for a guy that operated under another guy's authority
    Anyhow
The guy with the authority offered me a local driving position a few months ago
    He's a good guy
he's north of where you will be
    But
That may not be a problem
Send me a private message and I will give you his contact info
I dont know if he is still looking for drivers
    But
    It's worth a shot
He probably knows others in the area too
