Rookie mistake catch all: Not respecting Murphy's Law.
Murphy hates truck drivers...he will tag you every time.
How about not realizing how dangerous it would be to pass another truck with a short, blind entrance ramp coming up. Almost had a semi sandwich that day....you can bet your sweet little mud flaps I NEVER did that again. I've gotten payback a time or fifteen hundred for it though.
mistakes that let everyone know youre a rookie

flooring the accelerator & taching out the engine while in low range. Can spot the cabs twisting a mile away -- many of them with a team member trying to get some sleep in the bunk! All so they can be 100' farther ahead when they reach top gear...
Badmon, DoneYourWay and allniter Thank this. -
I high pinned the very first trailer I was to hook to...1st load, 1st lesson......

Driving a lease/purchase truck.

But it was no money down for a 2018 Cascadia and they said it would never break down because it was new, and the trailer rental was only $500/week. They told me I'd get 5,000 miles a week.
You mean.... NO... they Lied?Rollr4872, g.o.a.l, Pmracing and 1 other person Thank this. -
lol, i do that all the time , say i need to stop for gas, all the younger guys act like i am stupid enuf to put gas in a diesel truck with 32 years behind me..... Give me a break children , this ain't my first rodeo. Besides i was fueling trucks before half of them were even a gleem in their daddy's eye let alone being born..... Funny how everyone else thinks they are smarter than you and assume your stupid....
My rookie move when i wasn't even a rookie was to pull under the trailer loader in a hurry , load my long logger trailer on the truck and jump in and drive off forgetting to unhook the lift cable hook off the lift strap. jerked that trailer right off the bunks and left it swinging wildly in mid air, i went a hundred yards before i saw it swinging back and forth. lol, i looked out back window and sure as the grass was green it was my trailer, it came off so sweet i didn't even feel it...... i felt about as stupid as a fella could, but was tickled when i looked around and realized there was no one around to witness my stupidity..... slow down , do it right not do it again a second time.... lol almost forgot about that till i read this post, its fun sometimes taking a trip down memory lane, at least it can be good for a good laugh..... and for us old guys , memory lane can be one hell of a long drive....Last edited: Apr 23, 2013
