Good. i think it's best you, and everyone else, stay away from food delivery.

Well, RR, I need work, small companies seem to be run by small changeable minds, and the LTL companies HR people are being very good at exclusion right now. I've talked to TM's who are dying and would take me right now, but they don't get my apps. So close and so far.

I think that will bite the LTL's if growth doesn't slow, see a lot of contractor linehaulers out there already, at a certain point they are going to have a client list and map of movements, like any other outsourcer they potentially become competition just when manglement thinks they've won something by using them.

UPSF has openings and what looks like an easier entry, but your posts and the current initial pay rate chart have kept me from applying, although I've looked a fair bit. Truckload on the package side sounds like it would be better since they have mostly settled. I really don't want to go through hiring and end up in a prolonged toxic mess.

More and more it looks like UPSF is headed toward YRC-land. When being at odds is more important than the core values like customer service, you get stuff like chasing numbers as a justification for negotiations. It's like marital disputes in public, very bad for reputations and demonstrates oblivion to external reality.

That, to me, is a very dire sign for UPSF. Customers don't want to be in an embroiled situation and have delays be used as bargaining chips, they want their stuff.

ODFL and Estes will be like premium balms comparatively, if they can keep up service levels. R&L and Central will grab the money savers who will get the same service for less. it's not like UPSF has any kind of market lock.

So long way of saying that food service has been starting to look like a way in. Or I may give up and go retail, I've been cheated a lot recently and every offer seems to be more of it disguised in different ways.

Appreciate the info I get here.

This may be true for Foodservice...but not for Grocery Private Fleets. They're one of those...don't need to advertise type jobs. They don't need to look for drivers...you look for them. Easy work... primarily no touch freight or forklift unloads...delivering to your own Grocery stores....

Yes, what i meant by food delivery is where you have to wheel it in on a handtruck because the customer is too stupid, lazy, or lame to have a dock.

i didn't mean truckload grocery (which is the right way to do it). i would recommend this type to trucking. The only bad thing might be that you might have to start off on night shift.

Out here the Albertson/Safeway jobs don't appear to pay that well. For me the Mondelez job had physical activity and movement without heavy stuff and dealing with freezers and reefers. I get bored just sitting.

Have you looked into Frito-Lay? That's supposed to be a great gig along those lines.

    McKee Foods....

And many many others. Hostess Brands still runs to this day...but they just distribute strickly cakes. Many of the IBC products are bought out by different companies now.

Most of these food companies distribute their products through DSD, Vendors or Merchandiser. Not all, but most do. Very good money to be made...whether it's the delivery side or sales side...or both.

There is a McKee down the road about an hour, rarely hires and then only OTR IIRC.

Only Frito Lay openings I've seen is local merchandisers, again rarely. I'll look again tho.

Frito Lay is hiring like crazy out here in NY, I've had my resume out and 4 different recruiters from different branches have emailed me. They are hiring for route sales, meaning go in and pack out too. All of the openings can be attributed to their pay structure change, no more commission, straight salary so no more OT even on weekends or holidays, so a lot of their guys are just doing their 8 and going home. There were news stories on TV about a chip shortage in NYC recently, that's where they started this new pay scheme. I was gonna interview until I saw that, I'm not going to be the guy that works cheaper than a 20 year veteran and let's the company kiss more shareholder ### at driver's expenses. Sounded great until that news, I've been doing foodservice for a few years, with Poland Spring for a few before that, chips seemed inviting.

    @SPEEDY:
i did not mean to turn you away from UPSF. i would not say the situation is "toxic," yet. It's in shambles, but not toxic---yet; The real conflicts are between upper/regional management and middle, terminal, and operations managers.

Either we will sort things out, or we won't.

Now, it's true, the new contract is up in the air, AND, it's past the due date, so there's that.

    2) i still believe truckload grocery is a good way to go despite possibly low starting pay and the likely requirement to work late night/3rd shift hours when first starting off.
