The last time I was awed by a mountain was White Bird in ID. Two lane road, something like 8% for about 10 miles on US 95 south of Grangeville.
Jake or not, it was intimidating, but I'm sure the local guys think it is routine.alds Thanks this. -
RumRunner wait till you go down the gorge it's not as steep and from what i've heard twice as deadly!!

A few years ago, they dropped the speed limit to 35MPH for trucks after some nasty crashes.
It' back up to 50MPH now. Til somebody screws up maybe.
Gotta watch it in the winter too. It can be dry in Knoxville and Asheville and icy slick down through there. -

Took the gorge west to Gatlinburg Exit. Spent the night and ran US441 right through Smokey Mtn state park.(look at atlas) First time I ever saw a 360* switchback, awesome. Down to Cherokee and US19 south to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 50 miles of fun.
Thrashed it out, early in the morning, no traffic and curves, curves , curves and plenty of 1000+ feet elevation changes. Got in a couple of skirmishes, one car about 20 miles and a bike for about 10 miles. No way to pass but plenty of cat and mouse.
