    Not obligated.

If you are any driver at all with a 40 ton vehicle you WILL stop and go over it one time. Stop a problem from potentially destroying a life either by killing or maiming.

Mont Eagle is a nice little grade. Famous even. But there are much bigger and steeper grades out there. You will want to double check that tractor trailer at the top. Once you get in that habit you will be a safe driver.

When I started they taught us to stop every two to three hours to see about those tires and the old spoke wheel nuts etc. They were not the quality we have now. Not then. You catch so many problems before it really became a problem.

Also if you are not certified to adjust the auto adjusters in your tractor trailer, you must not touch them. If they are out of adjustment, find a shop and have them fix it in a jiffy. The days of manual brake adjustment went away sometime in the early 90's for me.

This is not so much a enforcement thing but rather a safety tool. It is good you stop, take a walk about and look see. Then you know everything is in order for the run down. It's really important.

<<<<see my avatar? It is a speed limit sign. Notice it is a white sign with black letters? That means it is a regulatory sign with the FULL force of law behind it. I honestly do not remember the signage there or any of the other brake check area's. YOU GO BY THE SIGN! If it is a regulatory sign and says stop you STOP. Failure to do so opens you up to getting a ticket.

Bringing back an old thread but I accidentally passed the brake inspection stop going east on I 24 in the dead of night. I was pulling an empty trailer and it really wasnt that bad. Nothing challenging. I was in 9th gear on a 10 speed, going 55 mph with my jakes on. Applied my breaks briefly to bring it to 50mph twice or so. Now I will be going west bound with close to 80k pounds. What gear should I be in, i notice the sign says 25mph for that weight so I am guessing 6th gear?

Is this one of those optical illusions? I don’t see a speed limit sign, I see a monkey wearing glasses and a chain around its neck. I’ve looked at it every possible way and I just don’t see a speed limit sign.

I drove past truck parking the other day when I was going to swap out for the other driver. Passed a truck doing only 55MPH and of course right in the middle of my pass, there went the exit I needed. Had to continue down the road and I went over my allowed driving by 5 minutes or so.

That sign is backwards. It should be speed limit 65 with a minimum speed of 85.
