It means his CDL is restricted to trucks with an automatic transmission.

 

That sounds like a real impediment. I wasn’t even aware you could get a CDL without knowing how to drive manual. Thanks for the answer

 

Apparently a lot of the schools are teaching with automatics and if you don't want the restriction on your license you have to take your test in a truck with conventional transmission.

A lot of driver have never run a truck with a clutch.
