As you see antenna discussions get very heated. and unless someone has the hard data to back up performance it is basicly opinion and experience. Yes someone may love a certain antenna and had great luck with it but it doesn't mean it's the best. as many people dont run many many different antennas to compare, etc.
my opinion. single antenna, good coax.
many find fiberglass to be quite good. it's more than adaquite for a standard cb user anyways. I have heard great things about the 6 or 7 foot fiberglass units. Most people who know, but don't have invested intrest (such as someone selling you an antenna) will tell you as much.
I run a uniden grant XL and an astatic 3k on my t600 KW. That is the most expensive antenna I ever put on a truck and I paid $45 for it I think. It is a great antenna and I love it. is it best? who knows but it works great for me. I was listening to south GA last week in Milwaukee but didn't have the power to reach back. he sounded like he was in the next truck though and that was on channel 24 not side band or upper/lower etc.
a guy I work with has had 4 $100 antenna stolen off his truck. that's too rich for my blood. I'l put money in a base antenna but not mobile.
I think this thread got WAY off track and the moderator should have done a better job keeping it to the subject. Other than that I agree with kcOrey though.

I doubt many other guys run in to this problem but i have twin firesticks on my f250 and they work great with my cobra radio I can hear 10 miles on a average day the problem is those stupid little caps that go on top. Its my pickup and it gets used for 2 things pullin car trailer or screwing around in 4wd but in either situation it seems like im always loosing those caps any secrets to keep them on? Ive heard that if the cb is on without them it can hurt the cb. Is this true? Ive tried black tape it sorta prolonged the time it took for them to be taken off by tree branches but it wasnt anything special.

Midget 28, Do you have the Firesticks with the tuning bolt on top ? If so....after you set your SWR with the caps off , you can run them without the caps . It is even printed on Firestick literature. Just make sure you set the SWR's with caps off , then run them that way. Nown on the other hand, if your antenna is the style that you have to unwind the wire & trim the wire to tune ,......I RECOMMMEND MAKING SURE THE RUBBER CAPS ARE ON WHEN YOU CHECK SWR & RUN the antennas. The model with the bolt is a FIRESTICK II , the wound type is the standard FIRESTICK 'KW

its the wound type.

OK, you are correct sir ! With the wound type you will need the Caps! Also, did you read my response on another post you had re: ECHO/REVERB ??

How did they find out it was him when he was using it while out hunting? Can they take photos of his licence plate number by satellite?
