Best way to I-90 from Idahofalls is to run up US20 to ID87, that turns into MT87, then turn left onto US287, go through Ennis to Norris, from Norris take MT84, that will run you all the way to Bozeman, where you can get on I-90... That is the shortest and fastest route. Its good road the entire way. MT84 is a little curvy so pay close attention to the recommended curve speeds. They are also good at keeping the roads plowed... Might be a little icy, but nothing to worry about.... Also, there is a weigh station in Four Corners, MT... You dont have to stop unless you are going to go south on US191 (which you wont). I have ran thus route many many times at all times of the year... Its the best your going to get. Hope this is of some help.
Also... 212 through the Reservation is fine... Just dont stop. I have ran it 5 or 6 times since this "civil unrest" began nearly a year ago.
US26 is a good route through WY... But if you are headed to 90 then its a waste of time over the route I posted above... Unless you run US20 all the way from Casper, WY to where it meets I-90 west of Chicago, IL.
Running through a rez is always iffy up north. I think NoDak is the worst though. I've only had 1 encounter that was rough, but it could have gone alot worse with other personality types.
