Mega-projects between China, Russia, Japan. Bridges, tunnels, railroads, gas/oil pipelines connecting the 3 countries of Japan, China, Russia. All this has just been a dream for years, but now it looks like these plans will finally be started. Japan will be able to ship their exports by rail to Europe vs. the more expensive way by ship.[IMG]

The United States is completely cut out of these projects due to sanctions against Russia. This was a self-inflicted wound by our politicians.

I used to think how to make war vs China is to sink shipping going there.

Now China will have her silk road running again as a alternative.

But, what's the point with a war? Only makes matters worse in the long run. It's easy to take a stick and poke a hornets nest, but impossible to stuff the hornets back in and control them.

    Tis true.

Im not a run of mill nut who thinks and glorifies war. I have been aware even back in the 80's the concept of carrier strike fleets going into Kola Peninsula is a futile option. (GIUK Gap-North east towards Murmansk)

The United States is sort of stuck. Interstates need work, all of our physical infrastructure needs more work, and we have close to 96 million who for one reason or another will not work. We can do work that will allow this Nation to thrive in so many ways if we have the collective and political will as well as the economy to do it with.

We would slowly be reduced to a ... basic republic of a Somali kind (I forget the exact simile right off hand...) that will want to attack a neighbor who has what we do not. If only to keep our own people misled as to how horrible things have truly become.

Does any of this make sense?

I've been disgusted for years by investors/banks/MBAs coming in and buying a faltering 100+ year old business, and stripping the carcass for pennies on the dollar.

They talk of how much money they made on the deal but don't consider the investment in a century of developing the company, nor do they consider the lost income had the business been returned to viability.

This is where I feel this country is now. I'm the last generation that has a clue as to what this country was about surrounded by an upcoming generation that doesn't care. It was a good run for the WW2 Generation, and the Boomers took the golden goose and beat it to death without a care for the next day.

I feel I will spend the rest of my life (which even pessimisticly, should be a few decades) watching this country descend into a 3rd world country, maybe a civil war or two. Continuously lamenting, "how could you screw this up?!?"

My God man, I'm Charlton Heston!
