just a thought but after reading this^ i automatically thought of at least three more frequent posting forum members that would ask this type question. the initials for each handle start with j,v,and b.

how does one lose any verifiable work experience? common sense and practicality were absent during the posting of the quoted comment.

edited to ask: why even ask? why not make the money and worry about driving a truck later? what aspect am i missing or what am i failing to comprehend here? wwkcd? what would kurt cobain do?

that was a bad analogy but i typed it anyway and laughed as i did. nirvana/kurt cobain or whatever his name was for those that don't know.he killed himself leaving a kid and an wild wife at the peak of his career.perhaps he too was in a slight pickle although i am only drawing off of the op's handle NOT the situation at hand.kurt cobain had real issues apparently while the op does not imho. the op needs to take the high paying/salaried position and worry about trucks later.7 months otr isn't all that to begin with and he can easily reaquire that miniscule amount by getting back on with some training mega and make half the money of the $30/hour.

    i don't get the op's worry i guess.

No kidding, I wouldn't even have to think twice about taking a 30 buck an hour gig local for 60 hours a week. I'd take it, and gladly at that!

As far as what you say regarding the younger generation being to "hung up" on the online app deal, I agree. I'm only 27 and I can attest to that, and you are also correct in saying that it's a better "first impression" for a business to see you face to face for your initial contact.

However, the unfortunate thing is, MANY companies simply do not want to deal with face to face interactions on that scale anymore. It's much easier for them to make a post online and sort through the less desirable apps, then just call the few that look promising and take it from there. Now, I know there are those rare companies that don't advertise but usually, unless you're lucky or know someone who works there's you're probably not getting a job there anyway.

Obviously it's possible, and I'm all for banging on doors, but in my recent years, when I've gotten out and "beat the streets" going door to door, looking for a job.....the old fashioned way, I literally get looked at like I'm out of my mind, and 9 times out of 10, I get something along the lines of, "you'll need to go online to fill out an app". Maybe it's my intimidating appearance, I don't know.

There are companies out there that will only accept applications from online.
