Is it just me or has anybody else noticed more old rigs on the roads? Particularly cabovers from the 70's and 80's? I am guessing a lot of old timers are getting ready for the December e-log mandate and rebelling by pulling the old iron from the weeds and putting them back on the road?

On another note, are those trailer tail things declining in popularity? A few years ago they were all the rage and most big companies had them and now I rarely see them and when I do the driver has it in the closed position.

Probably the reason why companies quit purchasing them. Too hard to enforce drivers opening them up. I know when I was company and I pulled those trailers I wouldn't open it.. I had a 07 century class and people were running brand new trucks getting all the fuel bonuses. I feel like some major players that we're going all in on the APUs quit purchasing them and went back to idling as well. Not sure how the new ones are but years ago they were nothing but money pitts

I thought I saw a sign on them that read they deploy automatically after 35mph.

I just saw a sticker on a trailer a few days ago that said that. Imagine being behind one on the road when it opened at 35. Without knowing it was normal and expecting it to happen I'd probably slam on the brakes figuring the ### end if the trailer was falling off.

From what I have seen, they don't always deploy.

Some have them without the bottom flap, too.

Long distance, maybe worth it, short multiple drop, no way.

Shizz....... that would DEFinitely be a WTF?!? Moment!! I don't even hardly KNOW anything about them, much less "see them" on the highways open; guess I didn't notice if I saw them closed, being a tank-yank.
Kinda glad I read this thread, SZ .... you might've saved me a possible future heart attack!

3 words, price of fuel. When the price of fuel drops to what it is, everybody brings out the old ( inefficient, but paid for) iron. And the cool old large cars too. When fuel was over 4 bucks a gallon, you don't see so many.

^^^^ Ya know, I've seen a lot more "vintage" EVERYTHING on the road lately, now that you mention it. Probably the TOTAL truth, right there!

I thought those stickers meant that they move 35mph while opening. Of course I have no experience with them.
