I took and amtrak ride in September and it was absolutely relaxing to say the least…

 

I could travel via Amtrak if it was some type of open ended ticket that allowed unlimited stops and boardings for unplanned visits in towns along the way.
Empire builder to Seattle then down to San Diego then over to Jacksonville and back up to Chicago as the N.E corridor wouldn't intrest me.
A month or more to complete would make a mighty fine retirement gift to one's self.

 

One of our retirees did something like that last year. They spent about a month traveling, getting off to visit people and then back on for more sight seeing. They did the southern states mostly and this year they're going to do the northern part of the US and into Canada as well.
They had one of those little rooms that @bzinger was talking about.
He and his wife really liked it. He said the food was pretty decent .
LOL...He said that he drove two million miles and never got out of Tehama, Shasta, Trinity, and Humboldt counties, now it's time to see the country in style.

 

Nevermind, I figured it out.

 

Rode the train several years ago to see mom before I moved here. Had a sleeper car. Only problem was trying to sleep and the train horn blowing at every crossing.
