Thanks A-T. I just came across that quote from RickG, and he seemed kind of angry about new drivers coming into the industry.I know that things have changed a lot over the years, and some people have a hard time with that, but there's no going back. Maybe if the economy improves, things may take a turn for the better.
I just thought it was funny..."entering the industry with no experience"? Well, is there another way to do it?
Yeah, there is a wealth of information here. I talked with my brother today about my plans, and was able to give him a nice little explanation about how things work, warts and all, just based on what I've read here.

I think what he ment was, entering the trucking industry without knowing anything about it is foolish. You wouldnt beleive how many people see an ad, sign up for school, and sign on with the first company that calls them! that is stupid and that is why the turnover rate is so high in the trucking industry. Do lots of research and you do fine.

ya I've found a good system for stuff like that out here, Plan as much as you can, plan for the worst case sceniaro, and when it doesn't work out to plan (which it wont allot of time) just let it go and try not to worry about the things you can't change lol

First of all, thank you to all who have taken time to answer SO many questions! I do have a concern about what all to take with me when I begin training in Salt Lake City with Central Refrigerated. I know about the weather and already have my insulated coveralls packed...lol. But, what all equipment should I try to pack? The list seems fairly lengthy and there is a weight limit on planes, trains and buses these days. I will definitely be taking my lil propane burner and small coffee pot along with me. What else will I need just to get through training? Should I plan to buy the other stuff here in Oregon where there is no sales tax or just bite the bullet and pick stuff up in Utah? What types of tools, supplies for the truck or personal things are "must haves"?
Thanks for your patience with all the "newbie" questions, it is truly appreciated. -
Is there any recommendations out there as to taking a driving refresher
course... all companies offer them or not and are they part of an agreement to drive for that company?
Got my cdl in july, 08 at Prime with less than ideal instruction from instr.
and trainers but i did pass the test drove as an A-seat, took the smith system course and passed, went 3 trips solo until the career took an abrupt
halt and was derailed, so been out of it 2 years making no money
and want to get back into it. -
Oops! Just found the answer to my question in another forum thread. So much to read here I think my eyeballs are crossing!
But I love it, thanks everyone!!

Yeah, yeah RickG maybe you don't have your nose in the GPS like you
so smugly accuse others of.... but you certainly have your nose stuck in
your laptop with some 7200 posts on here, are you for real man?
And you needed no extra pullups when you were learning....doubt it.
Just remember your doing a blue collar job and being a stuckup truckdriver
isn't anything to brag about.Last edited: Dec 17, 2010
