I've had one improperly loaded trailer that was heavy on the front. i had to slide them all the way forward to make it legal (12/34/34) and get the weight off my drives. My trailer didnt violate the 37 foot rule for md and i wasn't going though md. Mostly you need to worry about not having the rear axle further back then 41 from kinkpin.

I suggest if you own your trailer, get rid of the 41 foot sticker and just mark your trailer some how so its no so obvious to DOT if you need to run um a few inchs to far back. As you go through a scale they dont go out with a measuring tape but will see if you have a big sticker that says 41". Some states allow 43 though to.

We have at least 2 trailers with long slides that will probably go to around 35.

Most will go to 38 feet. The reason I knew of the rule was that a friend of mine got a ticket for it at one of the MD coops, and he was complaining about it. I think the ticket was in error, as I figured it from the formula for him at the time, but he had already paid it.

I always feel like I have a target on my back taking a 53 to the Baltimore area.

I read that reg as 41 to the center of the rear tandem group, not the rearmost axle of the group.

I've had the dot pull out the measuring tape at a scale twice. Once at the EB scale on CA58 near Tehachapi and the I95 SB scales in Connecticut. Passed both times.
