Howard Transportation - terminal is in Kerny, but they hire Charlotte drivers. Small 150 truck outfit hauling dedicated freight for Howard Industries.

Just moved to NC last year and now moving to the Charlotte area too... We love this area.

What kind of driving are you looking for?

I ended up at Abilene out of Richmond, VA

It's not out of Charlotte but they let you take your truck home during home time and they have an in house training program for us recent grads... I started here last August... Awesome Equipment, Great Freight, and lots of miles!!!

Ill second McElroy, they accept recent grads and your home almost every weekend. Trucks are small midroofs and basic, but they are designed for regional not OTR. I've met a few drivers that ran for them, they seemed pretty happy overall.

Charlotte is a cold town, closes at 5 sharp. A major banking center that loves to open VISA and MC bills each month that flood them.

With that said... you could do worse when I consider many places around the USA for the moving to. The more Rural you can get the more freedom, peace and quiet you will get.

It's not half bad. You want to also follow the racial fault lines and keep up with the local happenings It's potentially a nice place.

I do remember a taxi ride I took to orientation from the airport. Im not stupid as I look when I realized that the driver took the 20 dollar route rather than the 8 dollar normal expected route. A little perusal of the motor carrier's atlas followed by a cold eye on a gimlet got thje message across.

That reminds me of an article I read a few months ago about Las Vegas cabbies. They were complaining about customers using GPS devices in the cab. It was cutting into their long haul practices of ripping off customers. Tech saavy customers were asking too many questions, such as, "Why are you headed West when my destination is East?" Those cabbies were charging foreigners $180.00 to $200.00 from the airport to a hotel on the strip. Uber and Lyft solved that problem.

Too funny... Not that cabbies were ripping customers off but how tech (GPS and uber/lyft Apps) help to keep them honest... :)
