Not particularly but I've heard all the chatter about the wind and weather and just kinda made me question pulling vans. That area is all new to me as far as trucking is concerned. I'm comfortable pulling vans and if I could find good advice, I'll stick to what I'm doing. I used to work construction but remember how much working with chains suck in the snow and ice. I appreciate your input.

Yes there are locations in wyoming where the wind gets bad.... and the warnings go up before that happens. I drive empty vans across wyoming with ease. All of the dangerous locations have signs and windsocks. needing to Chain up in Cheyenne Wyoming, don't make me laugh.... Dealing with the spring time weather, where everybody over drives for conditions will be your larger concern.... just go and look for the 1 wrecks from this spring, on the HILL between laramie and cheyenne, and the one west of laramie... you can find them on TTR.

If you don't mind a short drive, there are lots of trucking jobs to the south of cheyenne, The brewery was mentioned, jbs in greeley, (yuk), More oil field in windsor, another Walmart/sams dc in loveland....

But us natives are so use to the wind, that when we have a calm day, we all fall down.

Thanks for the thorough answer. When I mentioned chains I was speaking of the chaining of loads on flatbeds which I am not crazy about. Just figured by the way I hear some guys talk, flatbeds are safer to pull with the winds. I always use caution and slow down with the wind while most guys are flying past me. I've been accident free and intend to stay that way. During an ice storm through Illinois last winter, I counted 20+ trucks jackknifed or on their sides on the edge of the highway. I just slowed down and hit the first exit I could. I guess the winds can turn into an urban legend and become a bigger deal than they are.

It's true. They have dangerously strong winds at times. The good thing is they have a pretty good warning system for bad weather and are always giving advisories. Cheyenne seems like a great place, Casper too......I've thought about moving out there.

Hey 19kM-1, for what it is worth (which probably isn't much,)...
I was working night shift down in the Imperial Valley in Calif. (I was a sheriff's deputy at the time.) Anyway I was stopped on a rise overlooking SR86 in the Salton City area, talking with someone. We both heard what we thought was the discharge of a shotgun. OK, rural area, not unusual to have a bit of shooting going on...
We continued our conversation when I noticed a large number of headlights backed up on the highway. When I got down there I found that an empty hay hauler, with doubles had his last trailer picked up by a gust of wind, and layed flat on the roadway! Of course his first trailer was pulled around and blocking the roadway.
Two folks in two different vehicles confirmed that the wind had caused the crash.
My only reason for making this long drawn out post, is to let you know that even flatbeds are susceptible to the wind! Wind shear is not just a problem for empty vans. (Or airplanes for that matter.)

Con-way, walmart, and I see a sign all the time at the pilot looking for fuel haulers for them. If the winds get too bad they will shut down the roads to trucks or light one's. I run up there some of the time doing regional runs out of denver..
The winter's can be brutal. We drive day cab's and the passenger seat has a tub full of winter gear. Insulated overall's, ski gloves, ski mask, back packer';s stove(for heat). And a sleeping bag. I've only had to use the sleeping bag once. fuel gel and shut down the truck and had to wait on a service truck to show up 3 hours later. That's a long time at -15*. But all the driver's do the same.

My wife and I love the country. She also has to be near doctors and specialists which is why I like Cheyenne area because it's close to Denver. A big one for me is it's a pretty safe second amendment state. I enjoy hunting fishing and backpacking . I spent a lot of time visiting my mother in the Pacific Northwest growing up after my parents got divorced . It was either Montana or Wyoming and I know trucking is a lot better based out of Cheyenne than it would be up near Bozeman Montana. That was actually my wife's first choice. I told her the winters were worse and finding trucking jobs would be more difficult .
