Now going to El Paso is interesting. You drive along the interstate and you can see the wall separating US and Mexico. And it's just a city on both sides. Juarez Mexico one of the most dangerous cities in the world, seen from the interstate.

They have cleaned up a lot of past problems recently but you still gotta respect the town. Supposedly it's safe for tourists now. But I'll pass.

That sounds good on a piece of paper.
The truth is, if he goes trucking in the oilfield in west Texas, 90 percent of the drivers are Spanish.
He'll be lucky to have handful of drivers who speak English.

Even the safety meetings are done in Spanish.
After it's done, one of the other drivers will translate
To the few drivers who couldn't understand a word
    That was said.

Working in San Jose CA a lot of the South American drivers flat out hated all white people. A coworker was setup and fired by a Mexican fellow. Everyone knew what happened but due to the race card they let him go. Our boss and regional manager made sure he had a new job the next day since they new it was a setup.
How is it for non-Spanish people in the Oil field?

FFE in Dallas/Lancaster has a dorm for the trainees to stay at while doing their CDL school. They also provide meals (freshly cooked, not reheated garbage)

FFE also had a tanker division for the oil fields. I don't know if it still exist. I have only seen a couple of their trailers at the Dallas yard.

Unless your company pays for housing you will pay through the nose for rent in Midland-Odessa area.

Google HazMat disqualifying offenses. There is a list of crimes that are lifetime disqualification and some only DQ for 7 years.

OTR is best in big cities with 2 or more interstate highways. Dallas or El Paso would be better than Midland for OTR, IMO

All kinds of freight goes into Thunderdome. Not much comes out and when it does, it doesnt pay much. Im out there on a weekly basis almost.

But the OP doesnt need to worry about that stuff.
