Yesterday had my Volvo dealer pull my mpg off my ECM. This is a 2011 Volvo 12 with I-shift mid roof with no air dam on roof. Mileage 180,408. I haul van with range of weight east of Mississippi. I have air tabs. I was very surprised at the numbers.
Driving (on foot) 10.03 mpg (89.1% of total time) and Cruise 6.6 (32% of total time). Average 9.9 mpg.

Dealer was very surprise that one could do better than the computer/cruise control.

You ever plan on going to California ? If not do a EGR delete . What gear ratio? And what type of work you do? ( dry van, flats etc, weights ) . 515 should be a Detroit . Get the emissions off it , it's. great motor! Just need to make sure it fits your app . Best of luck!

Very good work ! Feels great I'm sure ! What type truck did you replace and its fuel mileage numbers. That way we can see what type of savings you are looking at!

    .
This even with the handicap of EGR ( robbed us of almost a full mpg) , and a DPF ( robbed us of almost another full mpg) . If we had not been slapped with those two regs, your truck would be in the mid 11s for fuel mileage! That's fantastic !!! Volvo is still working hard on improving your set up. News is coming .

MPG's of 9 to 10 when presented as achievable in the real world, if only we'd all run Air Tabs and low RR tires at 55, are what Porn is to a normal healthy sex life. They are both sex, but one is a fantasy and the other a reality.

Dice: what was your MPG on the two pictures you posted? Not including the bobtail to and from. Tankful to tankful and what did you do to achieve that? I'll accept those two loads as qualifying in the real world.

Replaced a 2005 Volvo 670 with this 2011 Volvo 730. Was getting between 5.8 and 6.0 with the old truck. My new Volvo is much heavier than the 2005. I try to keep it around 64 mph.

Unless Volvo has some special cruise control, that dealer musta been pulling your leg. Any hills at all and cruise will kill your milage trying to keep your speed up. On level ground you can get away with it a little better, hit an incline and it'll start pouring the coals on.

So when you get to a hill that you can stay in top gear on if you apply some throttle, do you purposely gear down?

I understand that if you stay on cruise, it will try to accelerate to the set speed as you crest the hill and that will waste fuel. Whereas on the foot one can ease off the throttle cresting the hill and roll down the other side. This saves fuel.

How 'bout y'all include info on total weight, route, type of trl, modifications, etc., so we can determine whether a certain number is relevant to our application. Might save a little time on questions and waiting for responses.

Heck, I leave the cruise on! Just saying the computer isn't magic, and cruise is easy to beat milage-wise.
