Bought a 2000 XLT freightliner and I live just 3 miles from plant located in Cleveland, NC, They let me go onto the line and see it made but when they finished they took it across the road and started stacking it on a string going to Kansas city dealer where I bought it. I tried to get them to let me drive it there but no deal, had to fly out and pick it up there. Last year they put it on the computer at TA shop and it showed 6.9 miles per gal. US express drivers tell me that their trucks get around 7 miles per gal. I remember my old 220 from years ago and 4.5 was the best I could get but that didn't matter because fuel was 22 cent a gal and gas was 28 cent per gal now they have driven up fuel past gas, that I don't understand.
remember the old international, you couldopen the door on the dog house where you check your oil and put a hole in a canof beans and set it on the motor along with some potatoes' and cook dinnerrunning along. Old dog house was so hot you could just about cook on it.Remember when it snowed, your floor board would have snow all over it and wewould take old inter-tubes and cut them and pull them over our legs to keep thecold air from freezing you legs. You had to be tuff to drive a truck in thosedays but pay was good, let's see, I think it was 2 cent per mile and thecompany would let you run day and night for days. Going to sleep while driving, not going to happen, you were to busy changing gears and you never used yourclutch and most drivers never missed a gear because they were to strong, itwent into something. How did we make it?????

I've got a B-61 Mack and I've looking for a KW that's been totaled and I am going to put the B-61 Mack body on that frame. Think about it, you are riding along and here comes a B-61 and blows your doors off. You've been trucking for a long time and I know you remember how they would pass with a flame coming out of the stack. I had a convix mirror so I could see my flame but now the turbo has taken the flame out. Simple things like that made me happy back in those days. I've worked all my life and now it's time to play. Have a great day

On my Columbia with 2-140 gallon tanks, Low Fuel light comes on at 200 gallons used. I know I have at least 40 usable after that. Don't have the nerve to find out how much more usable capacity I have.

Living in Mooresville NC where we have over 30 nascar race teams just one mile from my shop and hauling for them I get really good deals. Here is my 50 ford with a 5.4L 2009 MUSTANG SVT SUPERCHARGED DOHC ENGINE 620 HP @ 7000 / 510 lb.ft. torque @ 5100 chopped 8" tube frame, 4 link, 5 speed air shift, trans lock, fender skirts come off and she's ready. It's nice to write off PR. Crap, I can't get the kid out of me. I've already started on the B-61 cab. I've extended the cab, I'm trying to keep the look but want a state of art sleeper and yea it's going to have air also air ride cab. I've put air ride on my F-250 power stroke 4X4 off road package and we just serviced it at 680,000 and I'm still running same engine and tranny and I've never had a problem. I dino my equipment and tune my turbo for proper EGT at 1,000 I never cut my engine off until my EGT falls to my cut off range. I take a sample of each exhaust port so if I have a problem with an injector I can see the EGT drop on that cylinder and most of the time it just needs to be cleaned. Injectors need to spin. My XLT freighline has the same system and that's why I get 6.9 MPG, I'm a motor head, oh let me explain EGT, that's engine gas temperature, being able to see what each exhaust temperature is allows you to keep your engine at max performance. I have a 250 in my shop and some of my buddies at nascar is working with me. All that exhaust will run from 1,000 to 1,200 degree so we are trying to make use of all that heat. We are working on a system to pull water pump, powerstering, air compressure, fan, to make it short, the engine will only pull the power train. We are trying to get a grant from uncle sam because we know it can be done. when you drive a truck you have all that time to dream things up. Take care friend,,,,,

sharecropper-you really are the "Old Breed". I wish I had your talent. On your last post, I do remember flames out the stacks.More so the burning bits of carbon that came flying out. I have a possible lead on a '68 road boss I want to try to restore. If all gos right I would love to have your advice on the project. you know more about these tractors than I ever will. Keep you posted Mike-Z

Thanks Mike, I'll be on the look out here, Don't know if you remember Associated Transport, they went out of business and they has a foot ball field full of road bosses in Burlington NC. I'll call a friend of mine Monday and ask him, he owns a truck junk yard. Campbell 66 express bought 100 and when they close doors most went to a guy in Atlanta Ga, I'm trying to remember his name, his first name is JB I have some friends in Atlanta so I'll run that past them. Campbell started selling them off because they were to hard to work on. You remember the dog house had to come out and 1/2 the engine was inside the cab, they had the stub nose model, Let's see, Roadway, yale, Atlanta Moter lines, Associated Transport, Carolina freight and several more. They were built by White then Consolidated Freight or CNF bought them out and it became White Freightliner then CNF dropped the name White and it became Freightliner. Consolidated was the only freight line that built their own truck then CNF was taken to court and they were made to sale to other truck lines and CNF could only buy ever 7th truck that came of their line. I guess you know that Freightliner is the worlds biggest truck company. Do you want the stub nose day cab or the long nose day cab like roadway had or do you want the long nose sleeper. White would give you anything you wanted and they become the best selling truck in the US. they sold a lot of stub nose day cabs to companys because the were great for city driving and as you know a long nose downtown has it problems getting into tight places.
    Take care my friend

sharecrop-I wish I had pic of this truck. Never thought about it in 1971. Cab was more rounded small back window. Air cleaner on right side and the "heater" of a dog house inside. It would have to be the STUB because nose on outher model was more square larger grill openings luvers would open and close for cooling. So I would say stub model. Thanks so much for you help crop. Will start project in july. Mike-Z
