55 mph I get average 15.5-16.5 bobtail, depending on how flat it is, could be higher. 2011 prostar ISX-15 CM871, 3.55-rears,10-spd eaton, lowered front end, many modifications for fuel economy.
VisionLogistics Thanks this. -
My old Chevy pickup doesn't even do that good!

Since I am leased to a power only company, I bobtail at least 15,000 miles per year, sometimes over 500 miles between trailers. If I keep it at 56-60 I will get about 11 mpg, if I go over 65 it drops to 9.5-10.5.
168" wheelbase cabover no less. And if you pay attention during bad weather, it isn't too bad... -
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed! Keep them coming!

Do you think that with a set up of a single rear axle , 12.7 Detroit , 10 speed , condo driving between 55-60 - you could average 12 mpg ? Might be doing something very similar to this in the near future and was just wondering .

I hear that. I did a 180 one time on a wet street. Slid right into the curb between two parked cars pointed in the opposite direction of where I was going. It looked like just like a movie stunt. No damage to anything. The two women walking on the sidewalk gave me some dirty looks. As if I actually meant to do that.Rawze Thanks this.

KW W900L: 11 MPG (Cummins ISX)
KW T2000: 13 MPG (Cummins ISX)
FL Columbia: 12 MPG (Series 60 Detroit) -
Pulling an empty flat @ 57-60 MPH I get a solid 10 MPG measured over an 1100 mile sample size. I haven't bobtailed more than one block in years.

If you bobtail over 60mph you might as well be pulling a trailer. Unless you can keep rpms down.
