It is amazing. I saw a guy with an APU ideling all afternoon and he had a newer truck and the same APU I have so asked him what was wrong with it. "Nothing - the air vents blow right at me so I use the air from the truck to stay cool"
It was in the 50's and dropped to low 30's that night. Would have been cheaper for him to get a hotel room at current fuel prices.

In 2007 I bought brand new VN780 with Volvo engine. I drowe it for 2.5 months and forced Volvo to take it back with the full 125 K refund + 2 K unnecessary expences. The bad fuel milage was only one on the long list of bad things about that LEMON truck.
I would never even consider buying any Volvo again...probably not even in Europe!
My 12 years old Detroit after totaling 175176 neatly recorded empty + loaded miles and included all winter/summer (2+2) idling during last 24 months gave me 6.8 mpg. My average speed is, I guess around 61 mph...ranging from 54-78 depending on the appt schedules on each load.
I never drive faster in order to be sitting at the truckstop longer.
My sincere advice is try to get rid of Volvos asap and get some good old Detroits. -
P.S. If you raised your average mpg from 5.0 to let's say 6.5, at 100.000 m/y and $4.00/gal, your revenue would increse $18,500.00. Definitely worth consideration I would say.

I am going to guess your drivers are not speed limited, and they are idling their trucks every night

I was in Ganado, TX on Wednesday and there were 4 trucks all idling while it was 72* outside. Once it dropped to 58* that night, almost the whole parking lot was idling......at $4 a gallon, that is just plain insanity. I curled up inside my sleeping bag and was nice and warm and saved $50 on the night
Purger Thanks this.
