Anyone having trouble with this should look up hyper milers on the internet. There are alot of tips on how to increase MPGs. I took it as a personal challenge and almost a game to see just how high I could get my MPG. A few things I have done that have really helped are, turned off the engine brake( I only use it when I am heavy and in the mountains) I have pretty much stopped all downshifting to stop unless I must. When exiting the highways I shift to neutral, coast and brake. In town I always try to keep rolling. I look ahead at signals and if they are red I slow down quite abit and try to gage the light. It is amazing how much fuel is wasted trying to get the truck moving from a dead stop. Even if your only moving a couple miles ahour the fuel savings will add up. Take advantage of the light loads and empty miles to really increase your MPG. Make it a personal challenge and it will become fun trying to get high MPGs

Coasting out of gear is illegal and your FM can see it on your MPG matrix. Learned my lesson.

I am just going to orientation on 7/20 in Marshfield. Once I am on my own, Evo III, would getting streets and trips with GPS be advisable? I am not familiar with the package. I take it, since you use it, it has a setting for truck routes?

I have never run GPS in my truck and I probably never will. Between Opti, customer directions, and my atlas I get where I am going just fine. No need to spend money on software and electronics in my opinion.

    grc56_tn Thanks this.

Perhaps in Florida. Last December in Appleton, I pulled off to the shoulder, ran out, and brushed the snow off a sign so I could tell whether it was my street or not. Twice. My street was the second one. Been running GPS ever since, but mainly use it as backup for that sort of situation.

The best navigational tool out there will always be the cellphone.

I am a newbie ... gonna be company for at least 3 years till I've learned whatever I can .... I see they want a 200 dollar deposit for truck/kingpin/van locks .... will they waive that deposit if I have my own? .... I'm assuming the truck lock is the one that locks over the trailer and truck knobs when they're set ....

My husband has the streets and trips 2008, it won't update anymore for some unknown reason, so I have to manually go to the site, find the file to download, then hunt down the folder and drop the new file over the old one to replace it. A bit of a pain in the rear when it use to be go in, click check for construction updates and viola! It'd do it. I don't *think* the 2009 version has that issue.
As far as truck routes, I can't remember if it does or not as I don't use it, he doesn't go solely on it anyway, like others he uses a variety of resources to get all of his directions. I think he likes running streets and trips because he has someone to argue with, kinda like having me around thinking I know where to go, but he doesn't want to go that way so he argues it and she argues back with a stern "Off route" lol.
The road can be such a lonely place at times...anyone else talk to their GPS? lol

I don't know, guess I just see it as unneeded. If driver's of yesteryear survived without it I can too. Just my preference. By the way, I only see Florida in the Summer when my air conditioning is broke. During the Winter Roehl blesses me with the Opportunity to stay in the UP, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or any there place that receives substantial amounts of snow.

And ETCH, not yet. Still trying to get to ROET. Had a load going there but ended up relaying it because it was way to tight to guarantee.
