The best plan for the 6.4 is rip it out and put a Cummins in. I had a 2010 with a 12 valve for awhile and loved that truck. I wish I still had it.

No joking aside if you like the way a Semi runs and pulls a trailer you will like a Dodge with the Cummins. We always say, "6 in a row ready to tow!"

Agreed, I had a choice on my 2004 6.0 when it destroyed itself at 137,000 miles to "bulletproof" it or do a Cummins swap. It was a couple thousand more to do the Cummins swap so I went the "bulletproof" route and it was broke down just as much as before. I took a loss on the pickup when I sold it but it was still one of the smartest financial decisions I ever made! Just remember the same marvelous engineers that designed the Maxxforce engines designed the 6.0 and 6.4.

 

one of my brother-in-law is a diesel mechanic, and he says the 6.0 was actually a decent motor, AFTER fixing its factory head gasket issues, and he said while he would never brag on the 6.4 reliability, they can be made into one of the hottest motors around. He built a 2008? 6.4 for his brother, and pulling his fifth wheel camper, it will do 0-60 in around 6 seconds. He said you have to have it in four-wheel-drive in order for it to not just burn rubber.

 

Bought back a old memory. I had a box of these printed up and gave them to my Dad at Christmas one year. He got the biggest kick out of them, gave them to everyone. We lost him in 99 , nobody but me knows it but I stuck one in his pocket at the funeral. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me Roger.

 

Back in 99 or 2000 Roger bought a new Dodge 2500 with a Cummins / 6 speed / 4x4. Probably one of the best pulling pick ups I’ve ever driven. But, the 99 F350 dually I had at EZ was a horse too, 7.3 / 6 speed.

In 2014 we bought 4 brand new Dodge 2500 4x4 4 door 8’ bed trucks. Cummins / auto with coil spring rear suspension. Before they hit 90,000 miles 3 of them were in the shop for road walking (no trailer). New shocks and heavier sway bars seem to help. These trucks always had 1500 to 2500 lbs of tools and equipment in the bed at all times, especially the electricians with tools and big spools of wire. 2015 I had a brand new off the lot Chevy 2500 Duramax, it was a good horse too…..

 

I tried many brands of tires on my company pickup over the years. I put a new set of Firestone Transforce A/T on the 2008 GMC. Coming up through Tennessee one night my freind and coworker Tony was driving, apparently hit something in the road and lost a right rear tire. Finally found a place to get a tire and get back in the road, every time I put tires on I always write the mileage down and kept it in the glovebox. 73,000 miles on them tires when we lost that right rear with just under a 1/4 tread left. I put a set on my truck few months ago, they will probably dry rot before they wear out no more than I drive it…..
