guys do this because of dpf system, if you run a grass burner on newer dpf equipped trucks you don't lose the passenger side battery box, yes they put stacks on side anyways for looks... but this is not a problem on non dpf C15 CAT engines -
The more I look at the little amount of room over there I get a little concerned about the resonator being to close to the AC lines.
-
bubbanbrenda is spot on- I have an 07 T800 with two factory under sleeper cat style mufflers, and the stacks run up behind my sleeper. Last Saturday, I decided to gut them....Egads! Both inlet and outlet pipes were froze in the mufflers, naturally parts house only had two couplers, which meant I could only modify one muffler. Did the passenger side, left on a trip Sunday, and about 500 mi down the road, I decided to order two of the Walker Noisebreaker mufflers. That "drone" sound appears to come on around the same rpm as Oscar, and for what it is worth, my ecm was modded about 6 mos back; although I really don't think that is the cause.
-
I didn't get the drone until my ecm was tuned, I had straight pipes long before that.
-
The "drone" comes from the increased timing, which is (partially) where your performance/economy is coming from. My drone started when I replaced the factory (no longer available) rubber mounting bushings (to the cab) with the latest and greatest hard plastic ones. Increasing the timing just made it worse.
-
I've got all the "channel" brackets to mount it to the frame instead of the cab, if that doesn't fix it I'm going to put 7" straights on it, if I gotta listen to it so does everybody else.
-
That is puzzling, why don't you hear that drone with factory mufflers? I just replaced the gutted factory muffler with a Noisebreaker and will find out tomorrow if kills that aggravating noise.
-
I made a small resonator to go behind the turbo, going to go put it on here shortly, hopefully it will work.
-
I want to do that too but I don't want an annoying noise either. How much increase did you see back originally. Was told the factory mufflers on my C15 that say Catalyst on them are real restrictive. Donaldson and Walker make a noise breaker one too for the jake - this does not make it quieter than the factory one does it as that would not be necessary.
