sevenmph - It may be worth your time to "get a second opinion" about recieving WIA funding. I am meeting with my WIA coordinator tomorrow to finish paperwork & get it all sent in for approval. According to what was explained to me previously by her is that WIA pays all costs, including state exams for license, and also provides you a small amount ($6 in GA) daily for fuel & meal expenses.

I'm debating what to do. I've got an excellent small OTR company that I really want to work for, but I have to get 1 year of experience first. There is a local company that wants to hire me now, and I could probably make more there than with Roehl or Werner. I'd be working 2nd and 3rd shift, home every night (day) to sleep, and get close to 70 hours a week. The one thing I'm a little nervous about is the fact that with so many short deliveries, driving in town, and backing, the risk of an accident seems so much greater for a newbie, and I know that would really screw my career. Are my concerns valid? It seems that going OTR with Roehl or Werner would be easier to be accident-free. I'm kind of stressing out right now, because I want to make the right decision, and stay for a year with whatever company I choose. -

What does WIA stand for? I'm in Dallas and would definately prefer having the govt pay for my retraining rather than pay $5000 to PAM or some other outfit...
Thanks in advance!

The federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which superseded the Job Training Partnership Act, offers a comprehensive range of workforce development activities through statewide and local organizations. Available workforce development activities provided in local communities can benefit job seekers, laid off workers, youth, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, persons with disabilities, and employers.

If you have done your homework on these two companies, and you are that close to a decision, just flip a coin. But make sure you have checked them out thouroughly.
