I want to thank everyone for all the great information about orientation, internet and everything else. I figured I may as well update you on my hubby's progress. Well, there isn't any as far as Swift is concerned. They cut him loose on his second day of orientation because he hadn't had his Class C license long enough (they require a year and he's had it for 2 months). We had told the recruiter this but somehow that bit of information must have gotten dropped or whatever.

So now I take him up to Dallas tomorrow for Covenant orientation starting on August 25. I know, I know, I've heard it all about Covenant but they are the ONLY company he has been able to find in a month of looking that will hire him with his brand new license. He will take the work, learn, and do a good job for them as long as they do right by him.

You'll find me posting in the Covenant threads now. <sigh> Wish us luck. :biggrin_2552:

That's odd, but with the slow down in the economy most companies like swift are not taken many sturdents fresh out of school...

SWIFT is still hiring new grads and people for their schooll. SWIFT says they are at over 100% load capacity. Because they are able to undercut the load prices they are actually doing pretty well right now.

    Hi Majik Lady!
I was wondering about you too! It sounds like everything is on track and going well. I'm in my 5th week OTR with my mentor and every thing is going great! Ya, I scratched a gear or two in the beginning too, but I'm getting pretty smooth now! Actually, I feel very comfortable and confident with steep grades, heavy traffic, tight parking or what ever! When you're out in the real world, going to and from shippers, city to city, you get allot of experience quick! I also find the 53ft trailers easier to back than those short ones at school! It will all start to come together I promise! I think the hardest part is sleeping when the truck is rolling! Bumpy roads and hooking up trailers doesn't make for a good nights sleep! By the way, what's up with the roads in Louisiana? That state must have the worst roads in the country!!! Any way, I'm told when we get our own trucks, sleep will be allot better!!? All in all, I love it and I know you will too! Keep up the good work! I'll keep you and the roads in Louisiana in my prayers!!! Polk Salit out!

I was in WY. the other day I 80 to SLC saw a Swift truck mentor and his trainer thought about you glad things are going so well for you. Not an interstate out there that won't bounce you around and your right sleep dose get better. Keep up the good and as always best of luck.

    6pak just sitt'n in SLC..............................:biggrin_2551:

OMG the roads in Louisiana, especially I-10 man talk about bouncing arond. I remember once going through New Orleans and sew a sail boat, sitting next to the on ramp for the high way over pass (can't remember which) put it was on the I-10, so that gave a new defination of "Boat Ramp".

    polk salit Thanks this.
