Area904: BTW, unless I read their website wrong (or it was a typo), it takes 26 months to pay back Swift's tuition through payroll deduction, not 13. I assume you could pay off early, if you wanted?

No it's 13 months after you go solo and get your first truck. The other 13 months is them paying you back. If your layed off for accidents or service failures you have to pay it off. If due to cutbacks and only cutbacks the loan is forgiven in writting.

I've got so many messages on this board asking for everyone's opinion, it is hard for me to remember where I left them all at. I know every company has its pros and cons. Swift, along with others, have been bashed upon alot. Some like them, some dont. I'd like to know what they are like from someone who JUST went thru their driving school. what do you NEED, what SHOULD you bring, etc.? I have been told if i attend class, i'll go to the one in Idaho. I printed off the closing list for that station. What else should i bring??

Well, it looks like you are halfway there at the time I read this post since you show having 25 posts. Keep going, you will make it to 50 before you know it.

I'm two weeks into class and all is going well. We started out with about 30 students and now have 14 left! Some didn't pass the piss test, some had personal issues and some just quit! intimidated by the driving I guess? I would say bring a pen, note book, drivers license, social security card that's not bound in plastic, and pre read the DMV commercial drivers hand book so you won't be hearing it all for the first time, this will help when it comes time to take tests, and that's about it. They do check you'r health pretty close, blood pressure, eyes, ect. If you read some of my past posts you should get a pretty good idea of how it goes. I'm in a school that trains directly for SWIFT, so it should be pretty close to the same. I read somewere you had to wear collard shirts and pants, but that wasn't the case hear. shorts and tee shirts were fine. Oh and don't be late, especialy the first day or two, they sent 3 guys home for being 5 minuets late! I think that's how they cut class size down if they have too many people! Just make sure you'r recored and pee is clean and you'll be fine. I hope this helps good luck!

I know you did not ask me but when I ran southwest I ran around 2500 miles had little down time. You may get shorter runs but you get plenty. A few times I would have 3 to 4 pre-planned mostly shorter hauls with an occassional long haul (200 - 300 miles verse 1000 miles).
