Humans didn’t have a choice but to get the F out of the way-that region is going to be “hot” for GENERATIONS to come!
It’s been 37 years since that reactor blew and the region is still highly radioactive!

Depends on your definitions of region and risk recognition

Well currently there’s a 19 mile exclusion zone around the power plant. Originally,it was 6 miles before the seriousness of the radioactivity of the fire and explosion (and the resulting radioactive fallout)was discovered.bzinger Thanks this.

To this day, they warn not use any local grown wood for burning campfires/bbq, from the White Sands-Alamogordo test site eastward to the Texas state line.

First, thats not true, it was initially an 18.6 mile radius, then as they traced the wind paths they added about 50% more to the exclusion zone,
But taking your number at its word, youre saying the worst nuclear disaster (excluding nagasaki/hiroshima) in history resulted in a recommended saftey perimeter encompassing .006% of the habitable area of earth, which is as recently as 2019 being considered as reducing the exclusion zone size but keeping it as a nature preserve because it now is one of THE most biodiverse locations on eurasia. Less than 40 years later.
Truly nuclear disasters are an existential threat to everyone and we must fearmonger some more about the most efficient way of powering the worlds electrical energy needs...
