It's doesn't sound like they are training because they DIDN'T PAY for what they are doing. It shouldn't be illegal if both people in the cab show themselves on duty. 2 can share a bunk sleeper right? If it wasn't then it would be illegal to team.

What is illegal about this, the instructor does NO driving, he is only onduty during the driving time. The other two are in their respective bunks. Whats illegal? Please pull your FMCSR manual out and point out where it says there can only be two people in one truck?

At least get a 1st grade education. I don't mind if someone wants to be a turkey, but be smart about. Thinking 10 orientation is a training program? :biggrin_25526:

Kabar still doesn't get it. This is not a 10 day training program. It's a 10 day evaluation to see if you're cut for the job or not. Those of you that've been in the 10 day can say that they never spent time learning how to back or learn how to shift trucks. All the time is spent seeing if you can drive, do logs and not tear up stuff in downtown settings.

Atleast this way is safer instead of having a 2 month newbie training a newbie out of school since all that's being done there is running the two drivers together as a cheaply paid team with one sleeping while the other is driving making 300/wk.

*Admin edit: insults removed* And Back, your right ITS NOT TRAINING... its them testing you to see if you can drive.. If you cannot drive you do not get a job. Its strange how W/S is "doing all this illegal stuff according to kabar" yet we have a better safety record than most the other big companies out there. Guess were doing it wrong...

Where oh where do I begin. Where do you put the 4the person? *admin edit: insults removed* It's illegal to have 4 people in a truck. You can't sleep in the top bunk when the truck is moving. It's dangerous.
    §393.76 Sleeper berths.
    h) Occupant restraint. A motor vehicle manufactured on or after July 1, 1971, and equipped with a sleeper berth must be equipped with a means of preventing ejection of the occupant of the sleeper berth during deceleration of the vehicle. The restraint system must be designed, installed, and maintained to withstand a minimum total force of 6,000 pounds applied toward the front of the vehicle and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.

    §395.2 Definitions.
    (4) All time, other than driving time, in or upon any commercial motor vehicle except time spent resting in a sleeper berth

So what are you going to do? Have 2 guy's on duty while two are in the sleeper? That's presuming that there is a web belt on the top bunk. Why take 4 driver's? There's 2 seats and 2 beds but that doesn't mean take 4 drivers.

10-4. Better call and find out about the web belts.

    Because they have cdl's.

Having cdl's doesn't have a thing to do with it. The 2 up front are on duty. 1 wasting his time. Then they switch and what do you know. 2 on duty 1 wasting his time. Whats the point of taking 4 drivers?

If it's a training truck, it may not have a bunk at all, it may have seating installed. I've seen that alot of times on training trucks, England has a few like that they use in Gary IN.

    Lighten up, everybody!
