What ever the current trends in the economy, the true demise of Interstate trucking was deregulation in the early 1980's. Trucking is now and will always be a sweatshop on wheels. It is the last real captured soul industry. If one can make it for the slave years and get 3-5 years of experience, the Walmarts and TSTM's are available. Leases are not good business models for the leasee. There is almost no control over the frieght stream and all the "expenses"are determined by the Leasor usually vaugely spelled out in the iron clad contract. One way in the company's favor of course.

You said the #1 objective to leasing. ZERO CONTROL of freight.

With all the derog out here on L/P, anyone who decides to lease a truck from the same carrier they pull for deserves what they get.....

Yes and the ones that run it as a business get clear title to their truck, established as an owner operator and should have built business credit as well as personal credit rating.
Cool breeze is right about deregulation. I used to clear $3300-$3700 every month after all expenses. That was a lot of money in those days.

You still need to avg. 2800 miles a week to make a decent living. I don't know many that can sustain that over a two to three year period

You know the mental part is absolutely correct.
