His license says class A it also has an "O" under cdl restrictions which states "except for tractor trailer" Which means in Nebraska He has a class A but cannot drive Tractor trailer until he passes a few test involving a Tractor trailer.
That's where the question comes in. How to do that with out paying for a school.
My buddy needs some help!!!

Get a job driving a straight job tanker, get your class "A" learners permit and see if your bosses would train you for trailers. Most companies will invest in someone getting upgraded if they think it's worth it. That's how my son did it, and the company furnished the rig for the road test.
chadcleary Thanks this. -
I'm still confused . Nebraska DMV site describes their Class A as being the same as Federal . http://www.cdl-course.com/faq-ne.html

A Combination of vehicles with Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds

Any holder of a valid CDL is automatically licensed to drive a Class O vehicle (any non-CDL vehicle,
excluding motorcycles
CDL RESTRICTIONS:
O - Except Tractor Trailer
I got the above information off of the Nebraska dmv website. What the heck? Maybe somebody with the Nebraska dmv ought to explain how they give out a class A cdl with an '0' restriction?!?

Penske, Ryder ect. will not rent to a private citizen.. Companies only... and only a company that has been in business for a while. I tried that when I wanted to do my own household goods move..
Most CDL schools have an abreviated class for those already experianced.. Try your local community college for starters.
Having no OTR tractor trailer experiance will hurt.. You'll have to start at the bottom with a "training company" like JB Hunt, Werner, ect... or maybe work local for a construction company hauling dirt, demo, building materials, rental equip. ect. Then you can cross a few state lines and gain some experiance.. (Containers are always looking for drivers if your near a port?)
There are lots of options.. Just finding your nitch is the issue.. -
There is no such thing as a tractor trailer endorsement on a CDL A. The CDL A is the proper license for a tractor trailer with the exception of an "O" which means not a tractor trailer.
Endorsements are things like: hazardous materials, doubles/triples, tanker, passenger, etc.
